Shaw and the Hound

He even give her 2 pony rides for 3 milk bones. He made bank today in the treat department. 😝
There will never be a way to know if he has the ‘old stuff’ since he’s not being tested on half of the equation... but on the “family beast” part of it he’s an ace!...

I’m just barely up the road a piece from you, and Black and Tans are unknown... here it’s all walkers all day long...

And I’ve known some exceptional walkers...

but I’ve never known one to be any better “family beast” than Mason... most are actually kinda aloof...

he’s a prize... and far better than average at doing his thing than most others...

I’ll give you $25 for him and the rugrat if she can pull weeds... final offer 😉

Yeah. It would've been fun to see if he could actually work a trail like a real hound. But I'll take his temperament any day over a nasty old racoon hide.

I’d just about say he’s the real deal... all the way through...

Even the best walkers, were the best because they were “receptive” ...

that means they’re receptive to what “the people person” is wanting... be it field or house...

I suspect... based on what you’ve said of his lineage and his behavior all these weeks/months, that he’s a top notch hound ...

But no matter... he’s an ace at “family beast”... so you might as well keep him 😉

Well. He has a nose like none other that much I know.
Wouldn't have taken much I don't think to turn him on to a specific trail if I'd have worked with him on that.
He notices EVERYTHING.
I changed some shoelaces out in my shoes today while he was outside. He give the new laces a snifferoo the second he came in. So weird he picks up on the tiniest thing different.

he was purpose built... that’s something to always be in mind...

but I think based on your journaling of him, he’s better than average across all coonhounds...

The best dial in, the rest are just instinct only....

I think Mason would have been better than average on trail...

but he’s obviously turned all that energy into “Shaw luvs me” energy...

In the world of hounds, he hit the jackpot... I don’t think he needs for anything other than maybe occasionally getting to lap some Mac and cheese off a wooden spoon 😉
