I can't even imagine trying to potty train a puppy anymore without using a kennel.

Me either! If I hadn’t put Duckling in a cage, I never would have gotten this dog trained!
Seriously, I have done it both ways, and I prefer having the freedom of no cage.

Dogs are den animals and don't like to soil where they sleep. As long as a person isn't over using a kennel or using it like punishment they tend to view their kennel as their safe place and appreciate it.
Now that Mason is trained I leave him out when I leave the house and many times I've come home to find him in his kennel napping.

I know, but I also know that pack animals aren’t in a den alone, not to mention the room. I also find that the puppy learns manners faster with constant attention.
There once was a puppy that was housebroken, but I had to go on a trip, and he had to be in a kennel while I wasn’t in the hotel room. I borrowed a kennel, and as soon as it was set up, he ran in. He obviously wanted a den!

My dogs all live in kennels or fences I can cover.

It’s not just for them, but they like having a place of their own. A safe place to go to. I like having a place I can send them when I don’t want them around.

It makes potty training a breeze. When we aren’t training the pups or playing with them we force them to be in their kennels. It makes them more independent and reenforces in them that I am the alpha and not them.

I think they make better animals when they are kennel raised. Even spoiled Pearl was kennel raised and trained. We call the kennel their bed, so if we say, “ go to bed,” they go no arguing at all. If only my kids had been so well trained.

I don’t consider kennels cruel, I actually, think it’s is harder on a dog to not have a kennel. But it’s up to the owner to decide what they want.

Our dogs are spoiled, we know what they want and when, they let us know, you have seen the videos of Pearl wanting belly rubs. But when we finally say no, it’s over.

People ask how we can have free range chickens with hunting dogs (labs) it’s partially because of the kennels. We are absolute bosses over them. No means no.

Mason sure doesn't like being alone.
Kennel or not. but if I leave him outside with the labs he barks too much for the neighbors.
And the labs are older and they get tired of him. One of these days maybe we'll get a playmate for Mason.

Just to clarify I did not take it that anyone thought a kennel cage was cruel or anything.
It's just a personal training choice.

I wasn’t referring to anyone here, but lots of people we know think it is... of course, they all raise non-controllable ankle biters.

Yeah, I’ve seen and heard that a lot myself! In various Facebook groups I’m in, in person, TV, etc. etc. It’s everywhere. So many people think it. But most dogs love them and even willingly sleep in there on their own if you leave the door open. It also really helped one of my brother’s dogs with his anxiety. He’d go hide

They took it down when he grew up and didn’t need it cause it was taking up room and he was actually worse/more scared I think. He would run to the basement instead. Then they set it up again this year for the puppy and lately he’s been going into it again and is so happy it’s back.
