Weather seems to really affect it doesn't it.

Such a sudden summer we are having. Crazy. I'm concerned about these two Shetland goose eggs. Bad enough to only be sure 2 are growing, I hate to have them too wet in there.

Maybe I'll try wiping them. I'm already misting and cooling a bit.

Daphne did another poo, this time right on the edge of her nest, and it stunk like putrid dead dux stewed in chicken manure for a week in the upper 90's.
As I tried to flick it away with a stick, she began EATING it! What the heck?!!! She was slurping it up and flicking it around. I nearly threw up, and I did bend over and gag it was so bad. Is this normal ducky behaviour for a broody duck to ' clean up after herself/ get rid of the evidence' ?????

I just candled 4 of her eggs, and I think they are viable. They have little red blood islands in the center of the yolk, and a little red spot in the middle of those. Maybe 1 or 2 days along. No veins that I could see. I put a question mark on them and gave them back. One of the 4 eggs I candled had black moldy spots along the air cell, so I cracked it, and found what I thought to be a 3 day old embryo long dead. It was nasty and old.

I know! Gross stuff is my life. Chicken poop, duck poop, dog vomit, rotten eggs, cat puke, horse poop, dirty horse hair, mud ( if you can call it that ), parrot poop, diapers......I've gotten used to it. Mostly.

Yup. I know the feeling! And why is it the ladies get all the poo jobs. I've never understood why men can do such gross things like skinning and gutting deer. . processing all kinds of animals And what not. . but then run for the hills if poo or vomit is involved.
