Shaws call duck incubation thread (hatch a wonderful(worthless to Ralphie) dux thread)

Yes, for misting and adding water to the incubator I do. It's actually better for the incubator too.
What about the claim of them needing higher humidity and misting. It would have been helpful if the author would have included an approximate percent so we would know what he meant. . . I mean higher than what. .the typical 30 ish percent .. ? Mine has seemed to run about 30 or so without even adding any water at all. So I've been afraid to add water. Of course I'm starting over with Cayuga eggs now. Lol.

I just do my Calls at the same humidity as everything else. I think he used to raise them a long time ago, since he also was saying a Styrofoam incubator was the best way to go, which, well, no, lol.

I mist the last couple days but not the whole time. I never really mist my duck eggs.

That was interesting! Especially the humidity part:hmm. . and do you use distilled water? What are your thoughts on that?

If you have a "float" type automatic humidity devices using tap water will plug the orifice and the humidity will drop at the most inopportune time. Ruining the hatch. Or in the case of DUX, with Murphy's law never fail and they would all hatch.....DUX thinking is so opposite real thinking...

Anyway use distilled or water purified by reverse osmosis if you have one of those systems...

Well I don't know what a float type humidity device is. . . but I don't want lime scale building up in my tray so I think I will buy some distilled water. Our water here is fairly hard.

Lol! Ya. . I saw that. But he did mention using red cell to boost mineral and vitamins and that was also recommended to me by Ravyn. . so I believe that is sound info. :thumbsup
**if anyone is reading and wants to use the red cell. .Ravyn said it is only for fully feathered birds not babies because it contains too much iron. And it needs to be super diluted to look like pee water. Lol.

Really? Can you drive trucks across your hard water like we do?

I use CLR to clean "scum" in the hatcher. it seem even using good water a slime or scale can build up. I assume it is from the dissolving egg shells and dander the chicks, (opps I mean DUX) give off when hatching that mixes with the high humidity and sticks to everything in the hatcher.

I have not hatched enough to experience this yet. . so I will take precautions to keep it clean :)
I do love that my new one is all plastic and I feel like I can know that it's clean. Styrofoam seems to me like it would hold on to bacteria down in it.

I had a bad egg burst in a styrofoam bator years ago. Smelled forever more. I'm loving the plastic too. I'll be able to easily clean the turkey out after they hatch. :tongue
