Shaws call duck incubation thread (hatch a wonderful(worthless to Ralphie) dux thread)

Any new babies? I've been busy hatching turkeys for a friend and getting the duck house finished up(yay:celebrate), so I'm way behind! Geese all moved out as well. They have a heat lamp as I'm worried about the little ones getting cold. Can't put with the ducks because the ducks are mean to them.

Here's their yard. That window will be removed to add a human door.

They ended up with half of a giant horse stall, it's 8x12 inside. I've locked them in for tonight although their yard is as safe as I can get it.

My incubators are unplugged and my brooders cleaned and empty. :( I'm not ready to be done.

Very nice rural! @WVduckchick has a new baby :celebratemaybe more by now.:p My two remaining Howard eggs are due on the 10th. Hum. . I haven't candled them lately. I should probably look and see if I need to start misting them:hmm I did throw a few more in the bator Thursday night on the off chance they could still be fertile. :idunno

Fingers crossed, those are extra important ones!

@Ruralhideaway Such a nice place for your birds. Talent all over these boards. :thumbsup
Thank you! They are less impressed, just want to follow me around the yard and poke through the gardens!

These calls crack me up. They have no idea how little they are. One chased my sweet cochin roo around yesterday pulling at his leg fluff. She's always creeping up on the geese too. Sidles close them jumps on their backs! I have to get some video of this ridiculousness.

Wow, that looks great. I bet they have alot of fun in there.

Only one duckling seen so far, but I could tell the eggs looked a few day or so apart. I could hear more peeping this morning, not sure if another made it out or not. She did bring the little one out for a bite and drink last night but rushed back in when I went to take pics. I'll check again before I go to work.

Exciting little present she might be hiding! Great pic too.

Omg aren't they hilarious! I had my OEGBs out in the yard yesterday and my call drake got too close to the momma hen with 5 chicks. He learned real quick not to get too close to them again!

I had a scare this morning. I didn't lock my ducks up last night, because I was being lazy and the stupid drakes never go in until like 9.
So the ramp was open all night, and this morning I couldn't find them! I searched the coops, the fields, the woods, under the porch, there was no trace of them!
Dread filled me, as I envisioned a coon sneaking in and carrying them all off. It was my fault too, for not locking them up, and now I had no ducks.

Accepting that any moment I would find Gilbert or Daphne's head, eyes staring unseeing up at me, or a foot, I walked to the side of the house, by the patio, though I knew they wouldn't be there, because they never went down there.
But I heard the quack of my drakes, and praise God, all four were sleeping in the coral bells! I scolded them for scaring me, and herded them back to the backyard.
I've learned my lesson, and will make the extra effort to keep my ungrateful ducks alive.

Whew! Glad for the happy ending! :clap
