Shaws call duck incubation thread (hatch a wonderful(worthless to Ralphie) dux thread)

Congrats Shaw! :jumpy
Thanks! I'm thrilled they hatched on their own without any help. I'm shocked at what a good broody Maggie has been. Maggie and Lexi were best friends. I don't think she would've left Lexi s side long enough to brood. I guess she decided to cook herself a new best friend instead of making friends with the others lol.

Here are some updated pictures of my crew:

Most of the gang gathered around to gobble some food:

Now. . @Pyxis
Can you explain to my pea brain how I got a pastel from a blue fawn and a black Bibb?

Well, you can't, lol. There must be a way for the duckling to inherit two blue genes from the parents in order for it to be able to be pastel. A black duck carries no blue genes, so it's impossible. Do you have pictures of the parents and the duckling in question?

Maggie and Ralphie from last summer. Ralphie didn't get the blue fawn head when he done his juvenile molt though.. He otherwise looks like a blue fawn. The duckling sure looks like pastel. I'm 99 percent sure they were all Maggie s eggs and Ralphie was the only drake breeding up until just a couple weeks ago. Others were still too young.

If it's pastel, Maggie can't be the mother :) She has no blue gene to pass on, so it's impossible. The egg must have been snuck in by another hen.

Hum. .that is interesting! I wonder who the sneaker was! My guess would be thea because none of them looked like Sofies eggs. And Lexi was already gone. These were all very pointy and Sofies eggs were more rounded. And the others are not laying age yet.

What color are they? Anything with blue would be able to throw Pastel with Ralphie :)
