My Coop
I am ecstatic right now. The kids went to let the chickens out of their coop for the day this and who comes walking across the yard but Belle! She's been missing since Tuesday. We had her, I thought safely locked in a dog crate for the afternoon so she could heel but somehow she managed to escape. I had faith she was hiding somewhere even thought I heard her a few times but couldn't seem to find her. Now how do I reintegrate her back with her sisters? She's lost a few feathers, not sure if it's from molting or the fight she had to put up Sunday night or possibly both. Her eye is no longer swollen either. I tried putting her into the run with the others but it looked like one of them was going to pick on her so I've taken her back out for the moment until I figure out how to get her back inside safely.

I just love stories like this! I know the feeling when a chicken shows up that you've though for sure was dead from being eaten by a predator.

Just put her back in with the others. She hasn't been gone so long that they've completely written her out of the social order. Try not to intervene unless it's a total pile-on. (Literally, there would be several standing on her hammering her with their beaks, but I doubt that will happen.)

You will see a little kerfuffle, and things will settle down very quickly as she gets reassigned to a new place in the pecking order line-up. They're going to be glad to have her back, too.

Thank you for your replay. I just checked on them and she seems to be ok on the other side of the fence. I was thinking of letting the, all free range for a bit and then putting them all back in the run together. She's been through so much I don't want her to have to go through more. Plus my husband put his foot down on her becoming a house chicken

When people post on here about a chicken that's disappeared after a predator attack, I urge them not to give up on finding them.

I've had chickens go missing on several occasions following a predator attack, and one time, a few hours after, as I was sitting in my bedroom mourning her loss, here comes the missing chicken, strutting by my window perfectly okay. It was like getting a do-over.

Update: Belle has been in the coop/run with her sisters all day. A few scuffles but nothing too major. She's sleeping in the coop tonight on the lowest roost by herself but she's in there. I have the trail cam on again tonight to try and see what is trying to get inside the coop. Hope all goes well.
