SHE DID IT!!! Ameraucana Charlotte's First Egg..and its really BLUE!!

Nice egg Cyn, I need to get some more EE's. I have 5 in the bator now that are suppose to be crosses so we will see what happens. I called my local hatchery to see if they had any extra chicks or if they hadd all the next hatch claimed and they were done hatching most of the special breeds for the year!! I was amazed, all they were hatching now were the broiler chickens. I am pretty sure they have the breeding stock on hand, I should have asked if they sell hatching eggs. Oh well, I will get some chicks in the spring then. I only have about 4 maybe 5 EE hens now. Very nice egg though, you going to hatch it???? Jenn

I probably won't hatch it; just incubate a few days to be certain of fertility. That is, unless DH says, no, leave it in there, LOL. I really didn't want chicks in the brooder this fall/winter, but DH has said that we may need to do it because everyone ELSE wants hatching eggs in the spring.

Sure, here's Charlotte. Thanks for the compliments. She has become an absolute doll since she's gotten to laying age:

Beautiful egg and hen. Thanks for posting the info on the difference between Araucana, Ameraucana, and EE. I have 5 pullets that I received from Cackle Hatchery that were labled Araucana/Ameraucana. I wonder if mine are true Ameraucanas or EE?????? I can't wait to see what color egg they will lay. Mine are 23wks old and have been showing signs of being ready to lay.

Cynthia, Where did you purchase your Ameraucanas? Thanks again for the info link. I'll bookmark it for future purchases. The pullets I purchased have the sweetest disposition. They are actually my daughter's favorite breed out of all the ones that we have. Thanks again for sharing.

Kim, my friend Lynn in California had bought a show quality black roo from Cree Farms. She put him with her blue Ameraucana pullet and sent me the eggs, which I hatched here in Ga. They are breeder birds, not hatchery birds. EEs and Ameraucanas are both wonderful birds.
