After a few failures (eggs pushed out and cracked, one accidentally stepped on etc...) my Silkie hen hatched out “her” first baby! I’m so proud of her. She is the family favorite and this only endears her even more. Any tips would be appreciated. I’ve moved mama and baby to a brooder as I fear rodent activity in the coop the last several days. I’ll move to a grow out pen in the coop when baby is little larger. There are still a few more eggs under mama but those are a few days behind this chick so I’m unsure she will hatch them out?

Awesome! Do you know what breed is the chick? And when is your hatch date?
Chick has four toes, feathered legs, pink skin

Dad is definitely my Buff Cochin LF (other roo is a Patridge Silkie)

The two possibilities judging by chick and the egg it hatched from is either
Buff Brahma bantam x Buff cochin LF
Or straight Buff Cochin LF - egg was a little small to be a cochin but my girls are young so could just be working the kinks out?

hatch date is most likely 10/13 or very early this AM

Is your female still sitting on the eggs?

She is! I just candled them they look to be somewhere between 18-21 days in comparing them to the chart I found. Disclaimer that I am incredibly new to candling eggs! So I’m hopeful.

As long as she is still sitting, all should be well. Sometimes when a chick hatches some will abandon the nest and others will continue sitting. Good luck and have fun...
