She finally did it!

Oh. Interesting, I must not of been paying attention to the details when i initially stole it from the chicken. I pretty much threw it up on that railing and left it til Ryn got home hours later.

Haha. In your hand!? What in the world! I'd probably pay money to see that! :)

Who knew good eggs were so hard to get! Geez!
Be Patient! They are just starting out.

I was cleaning the coop so was trying to get one of the hens out and plop there was an egg!

It was Amazing!

What feed do you use?
Purina flock raiser mixed with purina layena. They have access to multiple sizes of grit and crushed oyster shell (from scratch and peck cause I wasn't trying to skimp) and I even break up egg shells to feed them too!

Sometimes a hen will not eat the free choice calcium. switch to straight layeena.

The calcium with D pill will boost it for her.

Many are against Food Grade DE and I am to for most things, but it has nutrients in it that will help with the shells too. If you have some, mix a half a cup in with several feed scoops of layeena.

So flock raiser or layena? I do have the DE. And I'll have to pick up the calcium/vit d pills.

Is it safe to say if she's deficient then the rest probably will be too?

Use layeena only. I typed the wrong thing and will go back and fix it.

Switching to layeena should get them enough calcium. I would not give them any treats for a couple of weeks either. Only layeena. After that, only the amount of treats that they can eat in about 10 minutes a day.

I get a bag of kale from the grocery outlet each week. They get a bit each morning. You have to be careful because some foods are anti calcium--like spinach.

If you only have laying hens you should feed a layer type feed. You can't be sure they will eat oyster shell on their own and they won't have a choice to not eat the calcium when feed a layer feed.

We've got 3- 20week, 5- 17 week, and 1- 12 week. Approximately. Ryn would know exact but everyone's always like don't feed them layer feed until they lay. So I have been doing both so the older ladies can eat the pellets(they pick them out) and the babies can eat the crumble(which they prefer currently). But I'm sure it cant hurt to feed everyone the layer pellets since they aren't really babies anymore technically.

The layer won't hurt them at 12 weeks old. What breed is the 12 week old? Some sexlinks have more problems at point of lay.
