So yesterday my DBF and I moved our chicken tractor--we move it at least every 4 days or so. I had already gotten two eggs out earlier in the day and figured that was all from my girls for the day (they are 22 weeks old). I',m getting ready to go back to the house and all of the sudden one of my buffs jumps up into the coop. I thought it was odd since everyone else was eating and enjoying fresh grass. It occurred to me that she was going to lay so I squatted and peeped in the coop. Sure enough, she got in a nesting box and fussed around. Two others popped in and were all in her face (all up in her business as my students would say) so she came back out. She walked around for a sec then hopped back up in the coop. She turned around and squatted down. She puffed out her chest and then stood up and walked out. I looked and there was an egg! There was no noise, she didn't fuss, nothing!!! She is a machine! I was very proud of her! Plus, that is the first time I've ever seen a chicken lay an egg! Right there in front of me!! How cool?!

My BO let me watch too. I had never seen a chicken lay an egg either. Now my LB also lets me watch.

Yeah, I saw it one day too! It's cool...the egg is "wet" at first from that "protective coating" and it dried up in about 5 seconds right b4 my very eyes! My hen didn't make a sound either!
