It IS a hassle of having NPIP and sometimes you would have to have a friend to do it for you and then test them once again when you get your flock retested.

So if it means much to you, then you can wait to find an NPIP breeder.

There are tons of members on this forum and also in the auctions down below that have silkies.
 
I just got my NPIP certification in December. The guy who did my testing told me to only buy from NPIP if possible, but if I "just had to have something" to keep it in a completely separate area from the rest of my flock and to call him to come test the new birds. The testing here is free, I just have to pay to get the certification proving my flock is NPIP.
