I have 7 chickens and 9 month old ducks. Today when I got home a guinea was hanging out with them. I think she must have came from a mile away. The people down there have a few that wander around their property. She seems healthy, good feathers now signs of illness or injury. She's not tame like my flock but she will get within a few feet of me. She seems to really like the ducks. I don't think the people down the road have a coop or pen for their flock and I haven't seen them in months. She went in the coop with everyone else tonight and seems happy. Think I should catch her and take her back? My mom made a funny comment, "Life guard on duty"!

well i had had this happen with chickens . we live 1 to 1/2 miles off the road but i have had them so up but one of my late dogs did care for them so i had died birds in the yard

Your guinea may be a male that got run off with spring mating season. I had a male show up one year ago & he slept on top my bantam coop. Got him six friends in the summer and now have 5 happily living together. I lost two males, one was run off & one stayed out of the coop for a week and got eaten by an owl. The remaining 5, 2 males, 3 females are doing well. Get her/him some friends!! LOL

Well she/he is still here so I guess it's staying. I can pet it if it's in the coop with it's back to me but if it see's my hand it will hiss and run away. Oh well maybe it will get used to me. All my flock are very friendly. So I hope it comes around. Are they friendly?

Congrats, glad it's decided to stick around. But no, they do not typically enjoy being touched. There's just too much wild, skitterish blood in them, not enough domestic blood lol. That one may tame down if it bonds with your other birds and sees that they all trust you tho. But I wouldn't hold your breath, it may never happen.

Looks like I see a set of pretty big wattles... have you heard it repeating buck-wheat buck-wheat buck-wheat over and over? If not, it might be a male.

If you can, take some close up pics of it that show it's wattles really well and post them on here.

This happened to us. But no one remotely close keeps birds of any kind. We do have a conservation area near us. We saw a trio of rooster there last year. I figured they got dumped. I took them food until STL county came and got them.

the guinea may help your other birds by alarming them of a predator. keep it.
