That's so sweet of her to have done that...When I was so upset of Slifer crossing last year, Obelisk let me love on her and cry all over her too...probably because it was easier to reach my eye from my lap than the floor.
She'll only come up to me for lovings if she's not feeling well.
I never got migraines until I was in a car accident...not this past one, but another one...
I used to get migraines 2-3 times a week. Lots of triggers, but TMJ was a factor. My PT taught me to massage my cheeks thus: Make a U shape with thumb and index finger. Insert thumb in mouth with thumb against inside opposite cheek (fingers should be resting on outside of cheek). Squeeze cheek between thumb and fingers, feeling for knots that feel like peas or rubber bands under skin. Massage knots until they're eased, or until ya can't take any more.
Doing this daily is a good preventative. HOpe it helps.
I so appreciate the advice guys. My TMJ is the result of 2 car accidents, in both I used my head to try to bust the windshield. I've suffered for years. I even have a TENZ unit that the physical therapist prescribed. But nothing seems to work. Sometimes I think a need to do a sleep therapy test like my DH did for his sleep apnea. Maybe then they can find what it is that I'm doing wrong.
I'm gonna make sure the next time I feel a crying jag or migraine coming on, to take it out to my chickens. If they can sense emotion like that then they are the best comfort and medicine around! I know my 3 human men don't care for my rants so maybe my chickies will be more compassionate.
Have you heard of Cranio Sacral Therapy? It is like chiropractic work for your head along with your back. Some (not all) chiropractors are certified.
My chiropractor said that she had awful migraines and after her first session of CST, she was healed. My daughter has had it done for a while now, she had a head injury, and she has benefited greatly.
I had these headaches for years. They would make me completely useless and I could have them for days at a time. The headaches would get so bad they would have me "praying to the porclin". Dr's said it was stress and dismissed me. Finally a pharmisyst (sp) told me to take sudefed and tylelol, then drink a coke. It worked! By the time the coke is gone, the headache is gone. Gave me my life back, just that simple! Don't try it at night though, you'll be up all night. What helps me at night is that stinky muscle rub. If you rub it on the back of your neck where those muscles feel like rocks, it helps the headache go away.
I know everyone is different, but one of us may have your cure! I hope so!
I would second a shot with a chiropractor, works wonders!!!
Very sweet of your girls, I've had a horse do something similar I was upset, crying and the horse came right up to me and just stood there with her head hanging, looking at me all sad! It was so sweet!!!
Countrygirl-
I have TMJ, and have been through hell trying to get someone to help me deal with the complications of it. From $5000 "bite-guards" to chiroprators, pain management specialists, the works.
I also am a clencher. After all the money we've spent through the years, you know what works for me? A 99 cent boil-n-bite mouth guard. You know, like the one you would get in the sporting goods section for your kids to play football? You stick it in boiling water for a few seconds, let it cool a few seconds, then bite it. It conforms to your mouth.
I don't have as much trouble as I used to, but when it flares up, like during stressful times, I just make sure I pop it in before I go to sleep.
Might not work for you at all, but it sure made a difference with my TMJ. Good luck!
Jess
i hope that made you smile! hope you are feeling better. i know some people on here mentioned going to the chiropractor. i felt like a new person after going.
i loved your story about your chickens. animals and kids know how to make us feel better.
Isn't it amazing how animals sense when we are in need? God works in mysterious ways. I'm glad you have them as a comfort source.
Just an FYI....the Sudafed, Tylenol and soda thing goes back to the caffiene opening up the blood vessels. The Sudafed relieves the congestion or inflammation in the nasal passages and the Tylenol works to help control pain via nerve receptors in the brain. Since Tylenol does not have any anti-inflammatory agents like NSAIDS, the caffiene and Sudafed do it in it's absense.
There are other factors that will also cause migraines. DDD (Degenerative Disk Disease) is one as well as Lupus and Fibromyalga and any other auto-immune diseases. Sometimes looking at family history for diseases that can be passed down from generation to generation should also be looked at. We found out 4 years ago that my mom has Lupus after she suffered with debilitating migraines for 20 years.
