She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Day 6 update on filthy, porous, detached air cell ameraucana eggs shipped from an eBay person in Florida. I left a negative review, as much as one can do only using 80 characters.

Out of a dozen eggs there are 2 that show growth and an embryo moving. 1 has a blood ring. The rest are clear. No surprise, huh. I will remove duds on day 10. Seems like an awful waste of time. I will commence turning tomorrow day 7.

That sucks even if it was expected.

I set 30 eggs. 22 made it to lockdown. I now have 13 in the brooder, though 3 of those I'm not sure if they are ripe enough to survive- I'll know tommorrow. Going through the remaining eggs I found 2 orps were clear, and were just scrambles when I opened them. I have 1 about half zipped, 1 pipped , 1 chirping but not pipped and 4 not doing anything yet left in the incubator.
So that should have been 20 into lockdown but I couldn't see into the orps at lockdown, my torch was too flat.
So that means I have 16 of 20 developed eggs made it to living.
Hmm I think something's gone wrong with my count -
there was one that pipped and died
I'm sure I only had 22 at lockdown
I have 13 in brooder
1 half out of egg
I piped
1 cheeping
2 clears thrown today.
And 4 other eggs.
Where did the extra one come from?
Some pretty good numbers there.

So I did it. I ordered 12+ bearded silkie eggs, mixed colors. I'm actually really happy the other lady blew me off except I'll be doing shipped eggs again. Florida to NY. The furthest I've done. Very happy with the quality of the birds. Show/breeder. The breeder said they will be marked with the color and date they were laid. Loved her page. The birds were beautiful but they cost more then pretty penny. Really looking forward to the last set of the year!!

Yay!!! I've heard- and this is just reading things here on BYC- but it made sense to me. That eggs being shipped across a wider span aren't more prone to being worse off because they tend to travel in one truck over the majority of the destination and aren't handled as much as smaller jaunts that go from one truck to post office to another truck and are handled more being shaken more.

It looks like 3 out of 5 quite. 2 going into lockdown.
Good luck with those two.

I'll be sending @chicapee eggs in a few days to make up for her awful batch... I encourage her to post pics and updates...

That's so sweet. Didn't you do the same thing for someone during the Easter Hal this year?? I think I should give you my halo.

I'm really bad at naming chicks. The only time I did it was when my first group ( about 20 hens) was 5 months old and hadn't laid a single egg. I was getting tired of waiting for my first. I named the Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Dinner, Baked, Broiled, Stewy, BBQ and Soupy. Then I moved the BBQ grill in plain sight of the coop. 2 days later I had 3 eggs.
lol

that's mean I know how to use my hammer
That's great. Of course the mental image in my brain now is going to put me in therapy...lol

I only recently got my us citizenship. I used to be British.

Used to be???? lol Wouldn't you still be British??

In other words: Amy's spelling sucks and he has no trouble letting her know it!!! lol

Ok, lockdown update. Remember I said 70% fertility? That's because I only candled the first row, had 2 clears, and stopped. I projected that for the rest of the set. Well, those were the only 2 clears

22 made it to lockdown. 2 I'm almost certain are late quitters, but not certain enough to pull them. There's no blood ring, but the development is a little less than the others. The eggs are too dark to see much more than a shadow, but I saw definite movement in 6 or 7. All I can do now is

I won't be topping Amy's last hatch, but I will be satisfied with 11, ecstatic with 15 or more, and triumphant with 20. My money is somewhere between satisfied and ecstatic
I hear the final jeopardy music playing in my head....

Pea chick. Makes a lot of noise and needs it's mama
No offense silkie, but that literally made me LOL

  Bearded silkie, at that....
I'm with you.... just gotta do it sometimes!
Silkiecuddles is much more bright than my silkies too!
Right -- Dumb Dumb Daisy...  (the family friendly version)
Red bearded white silkie. :D

Poking bears: eh. Unless they're SC. Then :woot

why thank you, WV!

Haha I know the poor Chook's real name. ;)
Given your understanding of recent conversations, I'm sticking with silkie
Very well then. BUT I'm not crested and fluffy! :lau

Speaking of names.... SC, I need you to name my banty frizzle cochin Roo.... You know the one you made a boy with the Day1 picture?
I've been calling him Prissy, but it doesn't really fit him anymore. He's barely 6 weeks old, but was crowing (or trying!) this morning, so....

He's a pretty sweet little guy, a bit flighty, doesn't mind being handled, but won't come to me... yet...

Here's a new pic of him. Give it your best shot!

I want him!!! If you keep him and breed him, I want to buy some eggs!!! lol

No offense taken, Amy. I know how to handle a joke. Actually, that's gotten me in "trouble" on another thread once or twice. I thought the person was joking. They weren't. :hide

Think we'll get along just fine... a regular pair of porcupines...

Oh, hope you have a stellar hatch too... just finished off mine, 37 out of 46 that made it to lockdown...

Wow that IS stellar! Congrats! What breed?

Oh, I'm keeping him! Isn't he gorgeous? His girl is barred, so I think they will make some pretty babies... You get first dibs on eggs

That one's easy: scflock

Oh, that's too may syllables!..... I could shorten it to sock...
