She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I work but for myself so I don't have anyone telling me to get off BYC ;)
You can have peek into the life of Yorkshire coop here ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/982279/byc-member-interview-yorkshire-coop/0_20

I pop in and out of here at my leisure unless I have really really important things to do, that's when I have to peel the super glue off my bottom and force myself!!

The reward for getting the job done is getting back on here!!

Can you change avatar pic on the phone. My stupid pc has a virus, I need hubs to take care of. I suppose I could break out the laptop. Don't think I can be arsed though.

Yes, it works for me on my iPhone. Just click "desktop," on the bottom of the page and you can change it like you're on your computer.

I hope things pick up for you in the sales department. Maybe once they are older and you can sex them it will get better. One of my gold lace hens was not getting on with roo for some reason and she was being a pest with the other girls. That's the reason I think he went off her because she was upsetting the ladies. I put her up for sale and I must have had 20 calls about her because she was sexed. I may have just dropped lucky with this last hatch, but hopefully not.
I've had calls from people who obviously don't read ads correctly and ask for females when I have stated they are unsexed. Some just don't want to risk getting a roo. You would think how unique they look would be a good selling point for them. It's certainly what attracted me to them.
Could definitely sell them better sexed, but I am horrible at guessing Polish until they are about 10-12 weeks old. I'm going to have to build another coop and pen. That will be 8. The good news is that I see POL hens advertised for $50 or more, which I think is a little over 30 pounds

I work, but it's the kids nap time

LOL @ SC, after all that waiting they wouldnt even see my kids. So aggravating, they didn't tell me on the phone Molly was too little. I'm annoyed today, I need that laughing gas!

You guys are killing me today!

Ugh and we have severe storms coming in, hopefully they pass through. I can't with this storm warning nonsense.

So I was thinking last night, after reading a thread. I can't or shouldn't have three roosters? Is that a terrible idea? And how do you keep them from not mating the other hens? Example: if next spring I want to breed my orpingtons, and don't want them mixed with my Ameraucanas and BLRW's (given they hatch and I even have a roo, or who am I kidding I'll end up with five) what do you keep them in their coops seperate? But if they free range? I don't know I'm thinking way far ahead. I read you can breed from the same hatch, people do that right? I want to keep the Ameraucana's and BLRW's pure for the purpose of selling them. The Ameraucana breeder I got them from is certified with the Breeders Club, I double checked with them, but should I get a different roo next year from the same guy maybe? Or is it OK to breed the same hatch? And then back to the problem with can I even have that many roos, and keep them from mating with other hens.
I had this same dilemma as my flock grew, and the only solution I could come up with was to separate the breeds with coops and pens. Luckily, I have room to do so, and access to free lumber, so it was an easy decision. I don't know if other people have come up with ways to free range while keeping the breeds pure.
As far as line breeding, the rule of thumb is no siblings. I will breed pullets back to the same roo, but I won't breed a rooster and hen from the same hatch. My population has exploded in the last 2 years, and believe me, there will always be too many roos. So far, I have been able to sell them cheaply, but sales are slowing down and I am getting closer to closing the circle of life on my farm. Sometime by the end of the summer, I will be butchering my own chickens for the first time

That looks really good. Have you hatched in it yet. The fan and thermostat should be arriving from amazon tomorrow. Hopefully I will be able to finish it over the weekend. They were the only things I needed to buy as I had everything else around. Then I will test it getting accurate temp and humidity. My hubby is impressed. I just hope I don't electrocute myself when I do the wiring.
Have not yet hatched in it. This hatch going into lockdown on Sunday will be my first. I have holes poked by the light bulb and at the base by the sponge so it will help circulate the warm air down and the out. It holds a temp of 102 and humidity at 68% steady for about 5 hours. So I will have to double check once I get it running again tomorrow. LoL!!! I like yours too! I have to upgrade soon but I thought right now cheaper is better for me. LOL!

Welcome back Yorkshire! Glad someone is selling chicks...
In my area of the US, I think people are afraid Polish will make them question their sexuality

. I was hoping you would come back around. I had this stupid joke last week about you being from a whole other country, but then you disappeared
How much do you sell your Polish for? Which colors sell for more? I am learning this selling chicks thing. Forgive me.

Thanks! I hope sales get better for you.

So should I get rid of the roos, if I don't want siblings breeding? Because not on purpose, but they will try, right?

I guess next year I could shoot for getting more eggs? If I call the same guy maybe he'll have them. I would rather do it this year, but the twins will be here too soon, I won't have enough time I don't think.

If I get them from him and its the same rooster and hen though, and get a new batch of eggs, they're still related right?

looking forward to your results.

In the spring, I was getting $10 each for straight run White Crested Blacks as fast as I hatched them, but I never had more than 10 at one time. Now I'm not getting many calls at 3 for $20. I think this far into the season people don't want to mess with brooders, at least I hope that's the case. Most colors I see sell from $5-10. I have exceptional birds that so far have sold, so I'm not dropping the price. The most expensive I have seen, and I understand why, are Tolbunts. They are gorgeous. My biggest sellers are brown egg layers. They are easier to sex early, and pullets fly out the door at 8 weeks
