She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Hi there peeps

I'm getting ready to set again on Saturday morning
hide.gif
Have sold the 21 polish chicks so just the 4 Amber x polish chicks out in the shed. The shed is far too quiet now so the incubator will have to go on again. I'm aiming for 30 polish to go in. I'm not doing any crosses this time as the Amber eggs take up too much room. Should have enough eggs by tomorrow.
Welcome back Yorkshire! Glad someone is selling chicks...
In my area of the US, I think people are afraid Polish will make them question their sexuality

. I was hoping you would come back around. I had this stupid joke last week about you being from a whole other country, but then you disappeared

I'm always here watching you all :ep Its so hard to keep up with you all :old I'm not the fastest at typing!! Once I've been and snooped around and welcomed some new members there are gazillions of new posts here!!

Another country, I often often wonder if I'm from another planet :lau

Well...next hatch try due June 3 (or maybe June 2, they are bantams) followed by Easter Eggers on the 3rd/4th.

I am going full circle to the Little Oven...oops I meant Little Giant...along with an STC-1000 to do the actual temp control. I'll use sponges and not the water channels, and won't open it until all the little buggers are out and about. Or at least that's the plan.

I will not use a hygrometer, I will go by condensation in the corners of the viewing windows, and it's a still air incubator. I will use the SpotCheck to set my center of egg temp and that's it. If this works, then I'll hatch the turkey eggs on the 11th in the same setup.

Well, glad you popped in to say Hi.
Seriously, sales aren't going good here. I sold the first few Polish I had rather quickly, but this full batch I ran is now 2 weeks old and I've only sold 3. I'm hoping that once they are out of the brooder, more people will be interested. They are just such unique looking birds that they aren't for everyone. If they don't sell, I will have some beautiful birds to work with, though. 7 or 8 of them look like they are going to be beautifully bred

I would think the LG would at least make a decent hatcher, I just don't think I could trust it for the entire period. Maybe you should throw a few hickory chips in there

I hope things pick up for you in the sales department. Maybe once they are older and you can sex them it will get better. One of my gold lace hens was not getting on with roo for some reason and she was being a pest with the other girls. That's the reason I think he went off her because she was upsetting the ladies. I put her up for sale and I must have had 20 calls about her because she was sexed. I may have just dropped lucky with this last hatch, but hopefully not.
I've had calls from people who obviously don't read ads correctly and ask for females when I have stated they are unsexed. Some just don't want to risk getting a roo. You would think how unique they look would be a good selling point for them. It's certainly what attracted me to them.

If more people gave them a chance they'd fall in love with them. They can be so goofy and fun. I love watching mine run to me. All I can think is road runner...lol

I work, but it's the kids nap time

LOL @ SC, after all that waiting they wouldnt even see my kids. So aggravating, they didn't tell me on the phone Molly was too little. I'm annoyed today, I need that laughing gas!

You guys are killing me today!

Ugh and we have severe storms coming in, hopefully they pass through. I can't with this storm warning nonsense.

So I was thinking last night, after reading a thread. I can't or shouldn't have three roosters? Is that a terrible idea? And how do you keep them from not mating the other hens? Example: if next spring I want to breed my orpingtons, and don't want them mixed with my Ameraucanas and BLRW's (given they hatch and I even have a roo, or who am I kidding I'll end up with five) what do you keep them in their coops seperate? But if they free range? I don't know I'm thinking way far ahead. I read you can breed from the same hatch, people do that right? I want to keep the Ameraucana's and BLRW's pure for the purpose of selling them. The Ameraucana breeder I got them from is certified with the Breeders Club, I double checked with them, but should I get a different roo next year from the same guy maybe? Or is it OK to breed the same hatch? And then back to the problem with can I even have that many roos, and keep them from mating with other hens.
