I agree with Snowbirds technique. A little poop will not hurt them.
And another funny note....my phone is super "dirty".........as in innuendo dirty......while I was talking to my sisters mentally handicapped friend. Its a good thing I caught it before it made me look like a pervert! Of all things.
And I caught a cat in my live trap to take to animal control today since no one claimed him on the neighborhood email. The Crazy Lady down the street had the audacity to email me the ordinances of the county saying that my "chicken dinners need to put in a live trap to experience how terrible it feels".....well let me tell you what I emailed her back. I told her that I am licensed by the state of GA to sell poultry and my birds are healthy and I know my rights to be a backyard chicken owner. I also told her that he sprays my house and it smells like ammonia, and he chases my cats away to eat their food...and I asked her what she would rather have me do....shoot it? or catch it and take to alive to animal control....then I said how dare she threaten me and my chickens..and if she has a problem come to talk to me face to face. Lets just say that shut her up quick. She said I was right and never mind and to have a good weekend.
Talk about wanting to B***H slap an old lady in the face mood she got me into.....I had to pray. PRAY HARD!!!!!
You really want to turn an odd number of times so whichever time they are longest on 1 side (like at night when sleeping) the next night they will be on opposite side... it's to even out how long they are on each side...
I strolled the baby over to my neighbors like I do every evening and I checked on the hen that's been sitting on eggs. I saw 3 little babies & the rest of the eggs are still working on making their appearance. When the little black chick saw me, he jumped on his moms head and started talking to me!
It's a coon... just found tracks... **** thing fell in the rat trap bucket eating the peanut butter and left prints from the oil...
It never hit at the same times... sometimes at night, sometimes late morning after it was light out... don't have cams... and knew it wasn't a feathered prey animal as it pulls the birds out through an enclosed cage...
Catch it and kill it. They are too smart, too dangerous. Their hands allow them to do things other predators can't. I agree with the other posters, I've walked out to find headless silkies. If you don't have a trap, buy one. It will keep coming back, and those critters are smart
Question for anyone willing to answer. I see all the comments on using Medicated feed to the birds. Anyone like to comment on why you should never use medicated feed ?
I will never tell anyone to NEVER use medicated feed, but I will not use it: Amprolium is a Thiamine blocker. Now, given my limited knowledge... If it blocks Thiamine (an essential vitamin) uptake in the organism, I assume it also blocks it in the animal that's eating the medicated feed. So, my preference is to get those chicks exposed to native soil within the first week, while their immune systems are at their highest. They will pick up native cocci, as well as lots of beneficial bacteria from the soil. Their guts will build a good healthy mix of bacteria so the cocci can't get out of hand. The other part of my health plan for chicks is to get them on medicated feed ASAP. Yet more probiotics and healthy stuff for the gut! I have never had chicks with coccidiosis.
I have found through the years if you use Medicated feed on the chicks when you quit and place them on the ground they will get cocci. There is not enough medication in the feed to help with immunity to cocci. The commercial factorys use it because they never take them of of it. We shall see what happens when they put them all on the ground by LAW. I use non medicated feed and never have a problem of any kind. I also vaccinate for a few things also. Don
I just bought a Walther PP and a Mauser Luger P08. Looking for recommendations for a concealed carry holster for the Walther...IWB preferred. Suggestions? Or alternate carry positions that are motorcycle friendly?
Hubby suggests that your best bet would be to stick with leather, instead of nylon. And, assuming that they are older guns, your best bet might be to go to a gun shop and see what your options are... Perhaps a web site that specializes in Luger???
If I had a rooster that produced sons 75% of the time, he'd go bye-bye.
Good thought, however chicken genetics are different than mammalian. With chickens (and I'm assuming all birds) it's the HEN who determines the gender of the chick. So, if a particular hen lays eggs that are male 75% of the time, she should be invited to dinner.
I came home tonight to find Mama broody with some nice big fluffy butts under her. There's a little black girl, a yellow chick, and one or two chipmunky ones. 2 eggs not yet hatched. Can't wait to get a closer look at them to check on leg colors. The last 2 hatches have been 100% correct on gender ID based on feather and leg color. Hoping my gender selection test this time was equally as successful. Also found a VERY tiny white egg tucked very far under the coop. A bit perplexing. Some of the new pullets are 17 weeks old, but they should be laying blue or green eggs. I could be totally off on my egg genetics.... ?????

I like one I got from The Well Armed Woman (although it took way too long for them to ship!)
Crossbreed and Don Hume also make awesome ones that we like alot!

I like a leather holster. I have a Fobus plastic paddle for my Beretta, it's not comfortable but it is very secure. And the 96FS is not concealable unless I wear my hunting coat.
The Walther is a lot smaller and slim as well, but as it's 30+ years old, I haven't yet found a holster listed to fit the PP.
For the Luger, my son is hunting down a correct kit...and since it's about 75 years old, I'm not going to carry this one, it's a bit pricey AND a bit big. It shoots really nice, though.
I can't buy starter with enough protein without amprolium in my area.
But I do have my chicks outside in dirt and grass from 3 days old.
The wire floor brooder I would not use because baby chicks should be eating their own or each other's poop for the first 3-4 days to get thier whole digestive system working properly.
Foot problems I see as a possibility but the poop eating would be more important I think.
All chicken eating predators get a proper lead send-off around here... just gotta catch or spot it, lol...
Amprolium is a Thiamine blocker as that is what the Cocci feed off of... also, giving vitamins or sav-a-chick at same time counteracts it as well... and Amprolium only works for 1 kind of Cocci and there are several different kinds of Cocci...
On your blue and green egg pullets, what kinds are they?

Yeah, I'm fond of lead also. My pullets are all bred from EE roo (avatar) over: Dominique, Rose comb brown leghorn, Pioneer, RIR, Black sex link (last year's EE x PBR), Silver Laced Wyandotte, So... I'm puzzled. My roo was hatched from a blue/green egg. His parents were EE. All of the BSL from that generation were from the same EE roo x PBR, and they lay beautiful aqua colored eggs. But, the EE x RCBL pullets I've hatched all have WHITE ear lobes. Blue egg is supposed to be dominant over white... So... I'm truly perplexed.
For the first week I turned mine 7x a day. The following week, 4x a day and the next week 3x a day. But whoever said don't turn ven amount, thank you, I'll remember that next time.
