She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

How do you get the photo into the spoiler?

I have to go back and catch up but I have a quick question.

What is the best kind of thermometer for the incubator? I'm so tired of dealing with bad thermometers and I'm ready to invest in a good one.

BGB Spot Check from Brinsea?

I bought this thermometer and it is dead on.

Nice!!

Pictures aren't good, but I was in a hurry. They were popping out left and right last night. Seems to be a break in the action this morning, but there are new pips. Hopefully this hatch will be better than the last.
Last night, one of the eggs with a really small air cell pipped near the end of the egg, and I didn't think it would make it. Being my blue self, I left it. That little bugger punched a hole in the end of the egg and slithered out. I've never seen anything like it :thumbsup

You got kung fu chicks doing yoga, lol...

The final 2 sadly didn't make it. However, I am super thrilled with the 13 that did.

Way to Mr. FLOCK!

So sorry Ruby, I feel your disappointment. Would the lady resend you eggs for the price of shipping. I know it doesn't make up for the lost time and heart break, but it really does help. I think when you have a bad hatch you 2nd guess yourself and methods. But so many odds were stacked against you. Starting with the eggs lost in the post, the power outages etc. I hope you can get another batch in before it gets too cold. Many hugs.

Very happy for your hatch!!! :woot

Ordered it, it will be here sept 1st. Now for the eggs, I would do overnight shipping but does anyone know what BYC was talking about? He said to check the carrier or something? Overnight means they are flown in, right? Would Overnight would be the best choice?

Express shipping... they have a flat rate box, same size as medium priority flat rate box... cost $45 to send, will be guaranteed to you by 10am, 12pm or 5pm, or cost of ship refunded...

Where are they coming from? I don't know if air cells get as messed up for air travel or if ground is worse. I think Ravyns came by ground and they came from an adjoining state. They were also packaged amazingly. We did the 2 day shipping. If they are far, I might do the overnight and ship on a Monday or Tuesday.

Only time I do overnight is time crunch... a lot have reported rougher trips on the quicker option...

Florida to NY. She packs amazing. But this last batch had a 5 day trip and were not tracked properly, they may have gone back to FL, then back up to NY the post had said. The breeder recommends the overnight shipping, should I do that?

Depends on how much she's gonna charge you for it...

Thanks for the encouragement, I'm hoping everything is OK with the eggs. I'm definitely going to read everything you suggested. I can use all the help I can get. I didn't actually think I would win the auction and just half heartedly bid on them and in fact was out to start with. After that I forgot about the auction and went in looking for local eggs. I really wish I could have found some local eggs but it is impossible to find any where I live for some reason. I live in wide open farmin area and you would think being mainly a farming community there would be several options, but, alas... none!! I'm baffled. So I had resigned myself to the fact that I would need get to try out the incubator for a while. Then 2 days ago I got an email from eBay. I figured it was going to say I had lost so I didn't really bother to read it when I got it and waited til later that evening. When I read it my eyes almost popped out of my head, I was extremely happy and excited at first but the longer I sit and think about it I could smack myself for bidding on eggs that have to be shipped and over the weekend on top of that. I'm going into this hatch with the mindset that none will hatch so if I get even 1 that'll be a huge success! The lack of local eggs is frustrating. I have a new (to me) bator and can't use it when I want cause all I have at,the moment are chicks, I'm just starting out with chickens. The guy I bought the bator from has alot of chickens and I kept thinking about it so I asked him if he had any eggs but he said he wouldn't have any eggs for me til later this fall cause his chickens dont lay very well in this heat so in the mean time I have a shiny (ok, not so shiny) new toy that I'm not allowed to "play with". And then I found... eBay. On the good side though, I only paid $1.99 for the eggs with $9.95 for shipping. The guy I got the incubator from also told me he'd give me 2 dozen eggs, free of charge, when the laying picks back up!! So I'm excited about that too. Well fingers are crossed for the 24+/- days that the eggs make it here ok and hatch well after that. It's going to hurt when I uncross them!!

Wow that is so clever. I don't really like popcorn. How sad is that?
lol

I am getting 12 Welsummer eggs in the mail, fingers crossed they all arrive safely, and hopefully they won't be left at the post office over the weekend (finally shipped out Thursday night, coming from NJ to mid east Va), not looking good so far. This is my first ever shot at incubating and it appears I already have my work cut out for me, lol. I'm also using an ancient LG styrobator, God help me!! I think I'll be happy if even 1 hatches. I'm soooo nervous. Does anyone know how long eggs can be in fluctuating temps without being negatively affected? In Va this time of year it's hot and humid during the day and cold and dewey at night. I'm worried none of them will survive the postal trip. Does anyone have any advice for me? Like I said, I'm using a LG Styrofoam bator, not sure of the model, I got it used. It has a turner, it's still air, with a good thermometer/hygrometer. I'm so worried this will be a BIG fail for me which will discourage me from trying again.
I can help you with the hatching in the LG. If it's older with no digital controls and the heating element that runs around the top, it's most likely the 9200, which is way better than the newer ones.

Haven't caught up reading yet but I wanted to update. No pips. Out of the 2 that were alive, only one seems to be alive now. All the veins have receded. I think I'm going to open the one that was alive but is not moving now and see if I can see a beak, it looks dead now anyway. Worst hatch ever!!!!

So sorry friend.

Yes, I was blowing off steam. I was still outside patching the fence. The show was on when I got inside. Six had hatched, two zippers, and a few pips. Had eight by the time I went to bed, and looks like 10 or 11 this morning. Now they put the lotion on their skin as I head to work

I am on the phone, so I will add pics in a following post. It ate them last time.
Now to get caught up on Ruby and chicapee's hatches
WooHoo!!!

Keep em coming!

I hope

Amy owes me a parade at 15, and if no one else steps up for chicapee's parade, I guess I will throw it

. I guess the parade standard for BCM and shipped should be 75%. I was going to throw Amy one at 90%, but she had a 100% from lockdown
I'ma waiting....

Last one I quoted was the wrong one, but CONGRATS chicapee!! That's great. 13 out of 18, right?

Now to finish catching up in a minute.....

Don't know what happened but I had quoted Lazy. I'm using the mobile app so it's not nearly as cool as the desktop version, no smileys :( and most everything doesn't work unless it wants to. And forget about posting pictures, that just doesn't happen, lol.

On the app or mobile all the emojis have to be entered manually... qouting someone who posted them will show you their code... usually it starts with :
:jumpy :he :hit :plbb
Someone has a list somewhere....
