She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

But just because its fertile doesn't make it viable.
But I think including that in the total numbers would make us focus more on why certain eggs don't develop. If the incentive of a parade is enough to make us tweak our incubation practices, then everyone benefits in the long run. Amy has been the only one to meet a high standard so far (as much as it pains me to say that

), so it actually is something that makes me want to have a better hatch. If I don't pull it off this time, I'm *gasp* buying a scale...

Sorry, can't flockin' spell today... ugh...
Wanna borrow my Siri?

What I'm saying on the percentage total is I think it should be based on all non-clear eggs. It will be much easier to go with lockdown, and will make more parades available, but if I have 20 fertile eggs, cook 18 of them before lockdown, I don't think I should get a parade if I hatch 2. Somewhere during my incubation, I did something wrong. Even if it is mechanical failure, we should have the incentive to find the failures and fix them.
I know that the prize is a fake online picture parade posted by someone I will never meet, but doggone it, I want one

I think the most fair would be total fertiles, but I need all the help I can get on these BCM.

I'm really curious to see what happens today. My hatch started almost a full 24hrs later than normal, but the action was fast and furious last night. I left the house at about 50%, and parade or no, I will be ecstatic with 75%. Either way, I had 10 more BCM this morning than I had yesterday

I'm curious to see if the lower humidity has any affect.

Both. But im enjoying how informative and fun this site is!!

Welcome to the thread!

Clears numbers shows your fertility % and lockdown numbers shows your incubation %... some add those together, but splitting them up shows where you need to improve/work on best...

True, true, on the viable. I guess that's what I mean when I say "lockdown" anything un-viable at that point should be out of the equation.

But one could argue that a poor incubator, power outages, etc can push an egg over the viable edge. But I don't want to argue that. I would just go with good looking lockdown eggs.

No thanks on Siri... my mouth is dirty enough thanks... I'd probably get entire posts of **** ****** *** ****...

I actually agree with what you're saying (hoping roof doesn't fall on my head)... just explaining why different %'s are important to different people... :P

Since this is my first shot with it, none of this is conclusive, but last night was the most rapid consecutive hatching I have ever had. At one point there were 7 wet chicks in the incubator. None sticky at all, but hatches today and later is when I start seeing the sticky chicks. I really, really want 15, but can't help but have that dream of 20

I hope it goes well, because 9 of the eggs for the next set are those giant chocolate eggs

In my notebook I keep all the perentages you mentioned: set/fertile, set/hatch, fertile/hatch, lockdown/hatch. Every number tells us something different, but I think parades should be Fertile/hatch. If that's the case, then my upper number would actually be 22, so my 75% would be 16.5 rounded up to 17. That's a much higher goal, but is more parade worthy

Wow, I agree too!

So next time, we set parade values for all 3 numbers!

Jiffy Pop! I hope to see that too! I'm so excited for mine to get here...

Do you think any of those big ones might be double yolk?

That rapid group hatching is exactly what you want... batches should theoretically hatch within a 12 hr window and most should be clustered fairly close together... that is a sign of a good incubation run...
