In the meantime, here's one of the new feeders the girls love

Cool feeder - I think I'm going to make one of those for oyster shell. May also try one of those 5 gallon bucket feeders - anybody have one?

I was doing a lot of researching over in the feeder section of this site, trying to find one that solved my major spillage problem. Found this same feeder, in addition to several bucket feeders, on the "Show Me Your Feeders" thread. This one seemed like it would address my particular issue better than the bucket feeders, and was easier to make, at least for me, so I went with it; haven't been disappointed.

I don't have a walk-in coop, so the "foot print" a feeder takes up in the run was also a consideration for me.

My flock listened to talk radio today. Interestingly, since last night's fiasco, they were all in the run when we got home around 5:30. Don't know if their night time escapade last night scared them, or if they are hanging around to hear the "politics of the day". Hopefully, no hawk predation. Will know for sure when I do a beak count.

Hatch update:

3 eggs in the Polyhatch look like they didn't make it through the power outage when I was out of town last week. I'll leave them in another day or two but there are no signs of life. These were my project babies and I was really looking forward to a hatch.

In the Eco 20, one external pip, one that didn't make it through the power outage, and one that I can't be sure but it's farther along than the ones that died a week ago.

Fertility on my eggs was much lower in July and August, even for table eggs. Seems the roos and toms just aren't as into the dating scene when it's warm.

Once this hatch is done, I'll sanitize everything and put it away until spring.

Enjoy your day everyone!  I have to get in gear for our family picnic!

Making some Shrimp/smoked Sausage skewers,
meatballs encased in layered butter biscuits baked, then smothered in butter, garlic and parm cheese, dipping sauce!
Chicken and mushroom skewers,
Dev eggs & hot dogs (of course)
Salted Pretzel Caramel Brownies
Strawberry pretzel salad
and we are going to make the kiddos "alch free" Seductive Swan drinks
(just a lemon sugared rim glass with mashed blackberries in bottom, crushed ice and lemon aid)

Will be lovely!!!

This made me so hungry!!! Hope you had a great day! Sounds delicious!

No signs of feathers or dead chick, and none of the slightly older ones look hurt or upset, though all but 2 are now roosting at night.
I'm only loosing the 1 weeks olds

:hugs

So little and cute!

Hope you figure out what it is!

Since it dissapeared....first....beautiful birds!  Have fun!

Why does half your post disappear? Sounds like you're doing a great job!! :thumbsup
