Me and some buddies are raising 77 Cornish X. They are a little gross compared to laying hens. But they sure dress out nice and taste delicious.
I think a team effort would be great for meat birds - especially around processing day.

In the little town I live in, the local grocer is about $4 a dozen, and $7.29 for 18 eggs (don't ask me where they get their math from). In town, half hour away, eggs are around $3 a dozen.Out of curiosity can everyone tell me the cost of Groc Market eggs in your area, and what backyard eggs are costing?
Curious our market here in PA went up to well over $4.50 now, everyone wants my eggs for eating but we are eating and hatching most so I cant share LOL
I tell everyone GET YOUR OWN BACKYARD CHICKENS! DOH
This is a first year we are actually raising our own meaties CornishX not sure I am sold on it yet LOL
They eat and poo and eat and poo = stink I had to lime and add shavings today now its under control!
So much rain of late doesnt help! They are growing so fast!

Too cute!!!Well, update and picture time: 18 in the brooder. 5 of 6 Black tail buff Japanese hatched... 1 DIS. But that's awesome, considering they carry a lethal gene can kill 25% 4 of 4 Silver Duckwing OEGB's!! Yeah, they are so cute. 1 of 1 Silver Sebright hatched!! Awesome chick. Golden Sebrights... 8 of 13 have hatched. 2 are DIS, 3 are still in the bator, but not looking great. I could still see blood vessels, and maybe some movement, so I'm giving those 3 more time.Looking like I'm a little short of a SC parade, so I'm throwing my own parade of chick pics!

He'll figure it out... very rare is the male that can't figure that out...Thanks. The cockerel was given to me by one of my friends. He bought it some layers and had this and a surprise Welsummer rooster. Neither are SOP, but I like them for the free roosters. They were originally coming home to be dinner, but I liked them enough, I've let them hang around all my layers. Eventually I'll hatch a few of their eggs. I tried about a month ago and they were still clears, looks like he isn't hitting between the goal posts yet, but he'll get there.
Well, about that. They are doing the feeding and watering. Most of the processing will be up to me and my boys 12 and 9. We ain't afraid of it, but these folks got some city splashed up on em.I think a team effort would be great for meat birds - especially around processing day.
Average price here is $3.25. I sell a dozen for $3. I average selling about 10 dozen/ week, and the same people I gave them to for free when I had 4 chickens are my biggest customers now. I actually have a waiting list. I think they hated to ask before, so now that they are buying they get their orders in early. It's not a ton of money, but it helps with the feedOut of curiosity can everyone tell me the cost of Groc Market eggs in your area, and what backyard eggs are costing?

Word of mouth. I'm not setting myself up for the CL loonies at $3/ popHow do you folks advertise your eggs? I can send out a work email, but then I look like the "my kid has boy scout cookies" email guy. I just put them in the classifieds a day ago, but nothing there yet. I have a few regulars at work so far so I'm selling them ok. The girls have really stepped up their game though and I'm getting 22 eggs a day now.
we have 26 growing out and I have a bunch of CCL Hens and Roos to butcher with them, I think I ordered way too many! We did get a freezer from a friend free, and a newer one so we definitely lucked out with that area! We havent decided if we will process all of them or send them out to the local Amish butcher who does it cheaply for us. Its too many without a plucker I think.I'm selling eggs for $3.50 right now. Free range, all natural eggs are about $4.00 in my area.

I plan to just put up a sign in my front yard when I have some more to sell. Since I live on a fairly busy road, I think I'll be able to sell them that way. We keep up with the hens we've got right now. I've posted on social media a few times, and sold them that way.How do you folks advertise your eggs?
