She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

He's beautiful!! And I'm glad you're taking care of her. It doesn't look so bad. That's one of my fears, getting a chick with scissor beak.
Thanks, he's a good roo.

Hopefully it won't be too bad. We might file it, which should help with the alignment. That was a benefit of fermented feed that I didn't know about: makes it easier for chicks with cross beak to eat well.

LMAO
I live in Northern Michigan and love it here. Thankfully we have open carry. Important especially during the spring when I am out mushroom hunting. You NEVER know what you will run into.
There is a livestock auction every Wednesday here. Never been but I want to go.

My homie. *fist bump*

Fall is the best time to hunt in Georgia. Today we found a dozen HUGE Chanterelles in the woods behind our house. My daughter picked them and fed them to the bachelors. There were probably hundreds of visible mushies back there. Dozens of russula, some enormous bolatus, all kinds of coral fungi, and even some slime molds. If I wasn't so preoccupied with the chickens and the chirruns, I would have taken so many pics.

What do you hunt?

He is cool looking. The pullet hatch I did I had 4 eggs from my Black Austrolorp (I actually think it was one of hers that was the only quitter, so I think I got 3 chicks) and they are mixed but the kiddos, especially 2 of them, are really neat looking- at least I think so.....lol The one in my avatar is actually one of her offspring.

My sister has a hen that has extreme cross beak that's she's had a couple years I think and she says that it does well-I guess it must since it's still alive. Knock on wood-thank God- haven't delt with that yet.
Pretty avatar. Most of the chicks from our first hatch are BA mixes, too. I can't wait to see what they look like when grown. Feel free to post pics.

I had two crossbeaked cockerels. One progressed slowly, the other shifted rapidly. Since I had 5 RO cockerels and 1 pullet, they were the first to be culled. It was sad, but when Capo started having a hard time eating and wasn't gaining weight, I knew it was time.

@gachooks that roo is super pretty. And I used to have a crossbeak as a kid...she was my favorite EE and laid a green egg eveyday....until something got her.

Thank you everyone for the encouraging words. I plan to do alot more before the year is over !!

Yeah that's hard. I would be sad. :(

You know those CB I mentioned earlier? Well, here is one that I don't want to get rid of. He's a Black Australorp, and he's birchen! I've seen the man's set up who hatched him and I don't think he could be a cross, but I've never seen another roo like him. If I had room, I'd keep him and breed him--with what, I'm not sure. I've searched birchen Australorp for ages and haven't found anything like him. He kind of looks like a Birchen Marans, but that breeder didn't have any Marans that color. I hate to see a bird this pretty end up in a stew pot so soon. Our BLRW are getting pretty big. :) We have a scissor beak pullet. I found a great paper on the genetics behind it; interesting read: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0107050 Here's our crooked baby: It doesn't seem to be too bad. She'll go in our free range flock. But now I'm not sure if the genes are present for it or not. Edit: This paper is more relevant to the thread. http://www.polishbreedersclub.com/crookedbeaks.htm QUOTE] Beautiful boy... looks a lot like my tailed Araucana roo who's about to be replaced... only wish I could keep him cuz of his color... and temperament, he's a great roo... :/

Got the coop 90% done. Ordered the trim & soffits today and should be at the store by Friday. Got the exterior & interior walls done. Next is to seal the walls & floors, build the nesting boxes & roosts, figure out how to lay it all out and get the poop door. I want to put it on a timer. Oh and cant forget the fencing for the run.

Love wild 'shrooms... and being able to carry here, lol... TN's laws are the least strict on owning/carrying/using I think... and prolly won't change anytime soon either... when our neighbors(OH's cousin, unfortunately) dogs got out and slaughtered our entire grow out pen, Sheriff point blank told me we can protect our property... PERIOD... :D

We had a severe cross beak, until he decided he wanted to breed my Am hens... just get one of those hanging cup feeders from a feed store, the biggest one, and fill it with water soaked feed... I stirred in yogurt often too, worked great and he kept weight up nicely...

Have you guys ever entered "Champion Row Virtual Poultry Show" on Facebook? They have an on-line show every 3 months or so. I sent in some pictures not knowing much about it, and it's been really fun watching the results come in and seeing pictures of the winners. They had something like 2700 entries this time.
