She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Do you folks worry about cats?

Not in general, I mean, I know they don't have souls, but are they a legit chicken predator?

I have one living in the fields behind my place. I haven't lost anything yet, but I started wondering about it when my chickens went nuts last weekend when they saw it in our yard hunting mice.

I don't see a lot of stories about cats killing chickens, but it seems most predator attacks I have seen this year are the family dog, or a neighbors.

Thoughts?
One of my cats "lived" in the chicken house most of the time, but she was born in the barn right beside it, and grew up with them. No problems. Have stray cats come around...no probs yet.

Apparently I have my first broody. My Jap Banty has been laying on the nest all day. She fans her tail and "growls" if you reach out to her. I did finally pick her up to see how many eggs are under her and she has 7 she is sitting on. I quickly marked them and replaced her. We'll see if she decides to stay on the nest or go to roost tonight. If she is truely broody and stays on them, I will let her keep the 7 she has, but I don't expect much. For now I am going to leave her in with the others as long as the others don't give her a problem. If they do I have a huge dog crate I will move her to for the duration, but I would prefer them hatched in the coop with the others, cause I had no plans to incubate any more this year.

Nice! I left my broody too and she is still sitting on 7 SLW eggs. I can't tell you how happy she is to have eggs under her and not being taken from her.

Our neighbkrs cat hunts mice, rats and moles all around our pens... stays out of the pens though... my huge roo stared her down, so she keeps a respectful distance and her sights off the KFC and on the NY Sewer Special... Feral ones though... just ask Oz... he lost his first good successful hatch of Cream Legbars to some... reached in a small hole of the brooder box and ripped all their heads off... those cats weren't an issue for long...
Really kinda makes it worse, but I'm more quiet the next morning
And bet your wife makes lots of noise the next day too...

That's all the parade I'll ever need. I don't smoke, but I have an entire folder dedicated to smoking, and a pinterest. This one is--particularly nice.
