Do you folks worry about cats?
Not in general, I mean, I know they don't have souls, but are they a legit chicken predator?
I have one living in the fields behind my place. I haven't lost anything yet, but I started wondering about it when my chickens went nuts last weekend when they saw it in our yard hunting mice.
I don't see a lot of stories about cats killing chickens, but it seems most predator attacks I have seen this year are the family dog, or a neighbors.
Thoughts?
Thankfully our cat (pure bred Maine Coon) doesn't have much interest in our birds (I call them birds because we have both chickens & ducks). It was hilarious, yesterday I was hanging laundry and Mr Kity was in a lovey mood wanting attention then when he had enough he started stalking bugs. While chasing bugs 4 chickens were near by and he got that "wild hair" crouched low and ran at them. They immediately chased after him and he took off.
Our Chickens are so funny & territorial! About a week ago there was a baby Tuffed Grouse in the yard slowly making its way from the woods. Was about 20 feet away before the flock spotted it and they all went running with wings out. Needless to say they did not get very close before it took flight. Then the chickens were like "woah howd he do that"!?!
