She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

So when we first got our chickens I said we got a couple Araucanas and immediately "corrected" to just EE. Honestly what is the difference between Araucanas, Americanas, Easter Eggers & Olive Eggers? Heres a couple pictures

This is Tiger (I call her Poofy Cheeks) I say her eggs pink, if she wasn't hiding them I would get a picture of them too.

And this is Cheetah. She lays green eggs.

Also can someone tell me what combs they have?

here's a better comb picture

Those combs are a mix of pea and single combs... they happen when pea combs and singles are repeatedly bred together in uncontrolled mixed breeding...

Here's my take on it:  Ameraucanas breed true to color.  They lay blue eggs. Have beards and muffs.
Araucanas are typically rumpless, or at least carry the genetics.  I believe they have the ear tufts, but not the beards.
EE do not breed true to color, may be any mixture of colors.  May or may not have the beards and muffs. They may or may not lay blue eggs.  May lay green brown or pinkish eggs.  If your                                     birds came from a hatchery they are most likely EE.  If they came from a back yard flock, they are most likely EE, unless the person you bought them from can tell you the particular color                                     pattern, and you can see the parent birds with the same pattern.  Only certain colors are accepted in the Ameraucana SOP.
OE are a mix, using a blue egg layer and a brown egg layer to produce an olive colored egg.

Now waiting for the expert to fine tune and correct me.  Because ... well, because some one else knows more about it than I do!

I would call those combs Pea.  A bit of variation on pea combs as well, and I'm sure there is a SOP for pea combs as well.

You did great! :)

Just will add, Araucanas do not have beards or muffs, tufts are entirely different and come out of a peduncle (fleshy appendage) next to the ear... the black cockerel I posted yesterday is a good example of an Araucana...

Ameraucanas always have to breed true to color, if the colors get mixed at all, they're immediately called EE's...
OE's are usually Marans/blue egg layer mixes as the darker brown egg mix makes olive rather than green... and a lot of times they have to be bred back in a pattern to get true olive... :)

I really dont like people...

Me neither! ;)

So I ended setting up the "kennel" in the coop and putting a nest box and the eggs in there and put Chibi in there. She's not happy, so I don't expect this to work. I should have waited until tonight, but the problem is, all the other hens keep running her out of the nest so that they can lay there. She eventually goes back and when the are done laying they leave her alone, and they leave her alone in the afternoon after they are done, but in between the eggs are just sitting there, so I decided to give this a try. At this point I don't expect her to settle back down, but we'll see. It's so hot today I feel bad for the girls. I need to make up some more ice blocks.

Amy, I just did a google search on the Appenzeller Spitzhauben. OH goodness, those have got to be the cutest chickens I've ever seen. I'm not fond of "head gear" on a chicken, but... those are absolutely adorable. If I didn't have a "breeding plan" mapped out for my flock, I'd have to add some of those, just for the novelty. Do they come in specific color variations, or are they a mixed color bag, like EE?

Thanks @lazy gardener @Cynthia12 and @RavynFallen. We got them from the feed store so not sure other than being labeled Araucanas. I like the ear tufts. I didn't at first but they have grown on me lol.

Yeah, unfortunately that's a common issue... feed stores and hatcheries (although I do believe there's 1 hatchery selling true Ameraucanas now) do not have either true Araucanas or Ameraucanas... the debate over the names will never end either, lol...

Safe bet to say is, if they weren't purchased from an actual breeder, then they aren't true Araucanas or Ameraucanas...

EE's are awesome though and they are very popular... if you breed them you really shouldn't have any issues selling off chicks and extras... :)

I hit submit too soon, lol...

I hope she settles down... new ones can break from being moved, but some are dedicated no matter what...
Warm here, but thankfully our heat wave broke enough to drop to bearable levels...

Mine are silver spangled Appenzeller Spitz so they are white with the black (dalmation) spots. I love crests!!! lol
This is my roo:

And this is my hen:

If anything comes of my banty broody thing I might get another one before spring...lol

I'm actually considering getting another dozen of eggs from the girl that I got these from to hatch next spring. I wanted four girls and two boys but I hatched 11, sold 5 early on keeping what I was hoping was 4 girls and 2 boys only to find 5 crowers...lol So My nephew took the extra roos. Out of the 5 early ones I sold I was sure 4/5 were boys. So if I was right- I ended up with 2/11 hens out of that hatch....lol Now I have a female and male....
