She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I won't divulge confidences, but he is a great guy! Brought us lumber shipping wrap we really need for shading pens, windbreaks and snow barrier. We sent him home with a very nice batch of various hatching eggs.
We probably coulda talked forever, and we did talk too much, lol. Very nice, straight forward good person.

That is wonderful! Glad you had that opportunity.

I've had the pleasure of meeting several BYC folks when they've come to get chickens from me. Always enjoyed the opportunity. Wonderful people, every one of them. Have also swapped some garden produce in person as well. Joy to meet like minded people in person.

No, I have too many to tell, but there are some eggs that are distinct to certain hens.  When I had some of those, I'd set them beside each other and keep the ones that were less pointy, the ones that had a wider circumference at the middle than the others.

It's a theory that I'm putting to the test, and it's increased my pullet ratio from 40 to 60%.  Will continue doing so, until I disprove it, in spite of the nay sayers who say there's no need to experiment.  There's always room for a good experiment.  Keeps life interesting.  You'd ought to see the 22# hybrid Red Kuri/buttercup squash I grew!  It was 22# massive looked like a orange buttercup with green stripes.

Always room for a good experiment :) :goodpost

I'll have to try this when mine start laying, don't want too many roo's. I don't have the heart to process them and most people don't want roo's, even free 1's :(
ETA:Thats 1 big a** squash!! That's crazy!

I saw this extremely, ridiculously bright LED light on the counter at the gas station tonight...and you all know what I was thinking!! I've had a hard time seeing in these new eggs because the shells are thick!! So I quickly shined this bad boy over them tonight, while I was turning and I have nice development in 10/12 eggs!!! So I can go to bed on a happy note! :bun

Congrats!

So, I just had the most awesome visitor to our humble chicken infested place... gotta say I am very glad I stumbled across this thread and got to meet him...

Thank you very much, @BYC910, it was a pleasure to meet you and you're always welcome at our place!! :)

Has anyone ever noticed a temp spike on about day 19 and a half? When I checked on the bator earlier it was reading about a degree and a half warmer than it had been.

Yep, that happens... some people turn theirs down a degree at lockdown but I wouldn't worry about it at your point... just make sure it doesn't go any higher and you should be fine...
Think the heat rising has to do with the chicks producing their own body heat adding to the heat from bator...

Do boys get the blue first? I didn't know you had silkies! Are they bantam silkies?

Silkies are bantams. Some are just larger than others. Same as any bantam . . some are larger bantams. Some are pretty small. Had a hatch a while ago with silkies. One was a buff, so tiny! Her siblings were the normal size bantam. There are breeders that will breed for the smaller size.
