Morning y'all. WV, #8 looks alot like most of my eggs with the real thin wispy veining. Mine don't look like that all over, it's mainly towards the back of the eggs, the front looks good on most of them but they do look very similar to #8. #14 looks kind of like my blob, lol, definitely strange. I see the feathers like you were talking about though. I saw a pic online that had something similar to that in an egg and she eggtopsies it and this pink blob looking thing came out and it wasn't feathers on it but little fleshy...I don't know... hairs? I'll see if I can find the pic again and I'll post it.

K, so I checked that egg again and he's still alive but something is wrong. He's still in the same spot and hasn't moved. It looks like he's stuck to the shell. And I checked the turner, it's still working. Have y'all ever heard of an embryo getting stuck to the shell even while it's being turned?

You are the biggest candling addict I've ever met! I think you have me, Amy, and WV beat-hands down!! :lau

Poor Blobby. I was so hoping he would make it.

I don't think it's going to matter much how you lay it if it's truely stuck.

Sorry, my phone doesn't ever want to focus when I'm candling.

"The Blob"

I had several eggs that looked like this in my shipped batch nightmare. I didn't think of double yolkers or the embryo getting stuck, I just knew they were quitting. Each day the veins would get smaller and smaller, and the dark blobs would get more prominent. I thought it was a hemorrhage and blood clot from shipping damage. But yours weren't shipped...interesting!

This reminds me of something I saw on this thread a while back. I can't remember who it was that said it but someone had set some eggs and 1 didn't hatch so he cracked it open after making sure there was no movement and this weird blob came out and it was still alive!!! He freaked out and threw it in his Koi pond.

Omg...creepy!

I dont know and thats whats frustrating. We have 3 Rouen (2 hens 1 drake), 2 Peking (1 hen 1 drake) & 2 Khaki Campbell's (both drakes) and are now 7 months old. They get feed, kitchen / table scraps, fresh fruits & veggies as well as free ranged all day up until last Saturday when a fox was just feet from the run. They started laying at 5 - 5 1/2 months.

The first batch I tried was 36 eggs only because no one wanted to sit. I knew a few were older than 10 days but hoped for something. 5 ended up cracking a few I saw movement but none hatched. I had the temp at 101-102 and humidity was a bit harder to control because air humidity was 80-100% but in the incubator I was able to keep it more around 40-45%. Air cells all appeared to develop normal.

This batch was 34, 18 from our ducks and 16 from a friend. I kept the temp 100-101 and humidity 35-45%. Of those 14 were duds, 13 I am sure were quitters, 3 looked like they were developing but no movement and 4 I saw movement up until when I candled Monday. One looked like it had an internal pip with its foot (pictured earlier) and the shell turned dark. Tonight at 10pm starts day 28 so maybe something will happen. And their air cells look good too.

Did you have a separate thermometer and hygrometer that you calibrated for accuracy in there? Hand turning or auto-turner?

I have 2 thermometer & one digital thermometer/hygrometer. Thermometers were calibrated digital ran on trust since it matched the thermometer temps. Tried hand turning but it was a bit much with that many eggs turning 3x a day. So I have an auto turner. Maybe I should get some eggs from someone who has had successful hatches.

Yes, I have a serious candling problem, lol. With these though I keep checking so I can get the quitters out fast just incase 1 decides to explode. I don't want nasty egg stuff getting all over the eggs that are doing ok cause I'm sure they would all quit then since there's no bloom on any of them anymore. And it gives me a reason to candle more often. That's what I tell myself anyway, lol ;)

To be honest, I'd worry that that much handling would lower your hatch rate.
