She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Thanks!!!! We used to live in Alaska and we're avid fly fisherman....hubby and I both!!!

he made the mounts out of fish we caught. Lol!!
Can't tell a lot due to the distance, but they look professionally done. Hubby trained in taxidermy? Skin mounts, or done on forms from photos?

No, I have some but haven't thought of it.  I know about the three days so I'm not tooo worried yet:) Do you give electrolytes to yours this early?

Ditto:D

Yep, I do even if they seem healthy and happy. That way if they have a slow start to eating at least they'll have the electrolyte boost and stand a better chance of surviving.
I started this after I had a moron chick die because it couldn't figure out how to ingest food...by the time I figured it out his organs were shutting down. His crop was full of water tho. Lesson learned for me.

He took the actual fish and created mounts and hand painted them. No skin mounts. ;) as of yet...lol!!!

Thats amazing! I know my OH would absolutly love to fish the way yall do! Were in the right zone an all, but have no time, with my hobbies ;)

Hello everybody!!!

Eggy update!

All 14 of the American Bresse that i set are developing :D despite being very pourous. Im worried, i have to do some more research on what will happen to the embryo in pourous shells?

In addition to those 14, the seller gave me 2 isbars :D she has been great and i havent complained about them being pourous, the two isbars are also like this though:

I Filled the incubator UP! Set 48 total by finishing it up with my own mixed layers eggs. Pretty freakin excited that the whole tray i candled last night (on day 7), only One was early death! Much better genes than the duckies i last incubated! The other 23?! (Of that rack) Including All the Bresse and 2 Isbars?! :D were expecting quite a hatch. So OH built me a new brooder :) i painted it

Dont mind the photo bombin turkeys, i been tol yall theyre bad, spolit! In a non aggresive manner, please believe i wont have that!

And the calf... He started scouring two days ago an i think i nipped it n the butt but thats where ive been, runnin like a... Well you know ;) take care!

So... Question to those of you who use a carton for hatching those eggs with detached air cells, what do you mean when you say you cut the carton?
I've got bantam eggs in hatching and I'm in need of specifics regarding the carton. Last time I did it with full size eggs and did it with the cups cut away from the carton which resulted in the first chicks out of shell knocking everyone else over...
Tips are greatly appreciated.:-)

Honestly, I don't prefer to hatch shipped eggs in cartons. I lay them down for hatch. I can post a pic of the cartons I use during incubation and how I cut those down but I think you're asking specifically for hatching, right?

O gees... what color options are there post hatch?  LOL... I think I might be going ORANGE:/   What color should their poop be at 1-2 days?  My two are have bright green and clear excrements.  I'm not real sure they are drinking on their own yet.  I've been dipping their beaks into the water. I see them trying to peck at the food but don't seem to be picking it up. I'm trying not to interfere but I'm worried.

That sounds like normal poop to me. But please make sure you watch them drink. Sometimes you have to stand there, poking your finger at a marble in the water dish for 10 minutes before they figure it out and take a sip and lift their head to the ceiling and swallow. I lost my first chick to dehydration last month because it wouldn't drink. So I'm extra paranoid about that now.

He was somebodies dinner a long time ago:)   Haven't had a rooster in awhile now and I must say I do miss his good moments.
I'm still trying to hide the sparkles.  I think this hatching experience has added some, lol

I give electrolytes for the first 3-5 days. And then hard boiled egg yolk.

Did they leave that end up??? Because my po did not. They left it sitting on its side even though it was clearly marked!!! Stupid idiots.

Mine was on the side too, even though it was clearly labeled!

That's EXCELLENT news!!! :yesss: so happy for you!! I think with the porous eggs, just adjust humidity accordingly. I think they will be fine!! More calf pics...please!!

I can come via Grayling and Kalkaska, or via Cadillac and Mesick, whichever is closer.  We can meet at the closest point of my route to you, and I can be somewhat flexible on the time as I don't have a business meeting on Monday afternoon, it's just drive time.

I just realized I never responded. I am so sorry, its been a crazy busy week! Kalkaska is closer for me. What time are you thinking? Do you have any pictures of what they can look like?

I'm guessing there ain't one of the ladies that regularly hangs out here that looks a day over 25
Ah that's sweet, but I'm pretty sure I look all of my 41 years...lol

Yeah, my joints are all older than I am. My hair? Lots of sparkles there!

Nope. I refuse. I dye it...lol If I didn't I'm pretty sure I'd be gray like Gandolph.

O no, sorry to hear that. I am mixing up electrolytes now.

May I ask why you don't hatch them in cartons? This is only my second go at this and I laid the last ones on their side because videos I watched it seemed to take a lot more effort to get out of the shell. I'm on the fence about which way to go with this bunch.
