She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

@WalnutHill ,
I believe it was you who posted a pic last week of a rooster that you'd considered keeping, but finally invited him to dinner. I went back trying to find that pic, but couldn't. Don't know what breed he was, but he was lit up like a Christmas tree; possibly the prettiest rooster I've ever seen!

These were REALLY nasty when I got them. I originally had 30, 1 was cracked when I got them and I didn't know it and because they were covered in big chunks of poop and dirt I washed them and when I did I broke the cracked egg open. So then I was down to 29. I set all of those and over the last 20 days I've lost all but 9. I washed them with just water though, cause I didn't know what else to use and I didn't have any real egg wash stuff, just enough to get the nasty mess off of them. But I wish I had just brushed the biggest part of it off and set them without washing. I've lost 20 eggs over 20 days.

Hey Megan,

My eggs were shipped and have ideal conditions. I started with 32 and in day 14 I am down to 14. That's 18 eggs. 11 not fertile after a trip in an egg scrambling p.o. truck and another 7 that got the red ring.
Please stop beating yourself up about washing them. These eggs are immaculate and they still quit. It just happens. I swear sometimes eggs hatch against all odds and other times no matter what you do The bugger winds up being a dud.
Rest assured you and I will continue buying eggs and hatching those who survive to the end. This is tough but it's worth it to me.

I quit paying much attention to weather forecasts; meteorologists are the only folks (other than politicians) who can be wrong more than they're right & still get a pay raise every year. I'm convinced they stick their head out of their office window & call for rain if their face gets wet.
LOL So true! My dad and I are always talking about that.

I thought you were talking about the book and then documentary called "the secret". It's about how the power of your thoughts will get you want to want in life. It's actually really interesting.
Oh..no.

When we were waiting for our first egg, we sat on the back deck while eating KFC... they started laying within the week...

So after I first started using BYC a year ago, I was reading a discussion about trying to get pullets to lay and they were talking about feeding them a bit of red pepper and a handful (if I remember right) swore by it...lol Don't know how safe or the success rate, but you guys made me think of it...lol Should see if I can find that again....lol

Well that's exactly what the picture shows - the northern tier warmer and drier, the southern tier cooler and wetter.

But even in the following pictures of El Nino and La Nina, the Polar winds still could head your direction, depending how far NE you are. But I really hope you do have a warmer winter!

Weather phenomena is interesting to me - now back to your regularly scheduled hatching!
That's what I said, your map showed my area with nothing but polar winds and we get that all the time. I don't want polar anything...lol

Slow-roasted Polar Bear's supposed to be pretty tasty

Interesting enuf, but I'm inclined to go with the results of the formal study cited in the 1st thread.

Can't remember all who commented or asked about Lady Grey's egg and colored duck eggs, so here's to who wanted to know or didn't know... yes, that was a duck egg and they do lay different colors... I have heard, but haven't found a tan/brown egg laying duck, but here are some examples...
Cayugas lay a grey to black egg, btw... and that's also where the myth about Ayam Cemanis laying black eggs came from... :/

This is true . you do all you can for a good hatch. but some things are just out of your control . most incubator O.M. say to clean and sanitize the eggs while almost everyone says not to . really dirty eggs just should not be set. I know that most of you spot wash . I do that and have used the Manna Pro egg cleaner on shipped eggs .this hatch not only have I run dry I'm also not spiking the humidity . should have done it before . after Ravyn told me what she does. I'm holding the humidity at 50 to 55% I need to count eggs but 19 made it to lock down 11 have hatched 6 more are piped 2 are DIS.

Awesome numbers so far, hope all your pippers hatch!
