I hope everbodys doin good!

Ruby i think were all glad the little ones doing okay. How is now? And that intergration was easy! :celebrate

Ross: hows the babies comin?!

Interesting stuff about the pumkins. im going to see if theres a place that would give them to me.

FF is going well here, what about for you guys Amy and Ruby?? The ducks cant even make a big
Mess anymore :plbb although they do manage to sling it back on themsevlves and eachother.

Ive been looking into things to plant for pastureland, that ryegrass is a very interesting topic, has anyone tried "white clover?" Thats one of the tops for my land type/geographic area/nutritional needs.

Were about drowned down here, and its going to rain all This weekend too! I cant go into my yard without rubber boots anymore, and those are sunk to the ankles in muck :/ the realities of the swamp...

And i adopted 20 littles. The man ive been working with found sexed pullets and decided to buy them. But i KNOW theyd be going to their doom to go to his house :/ idk what im going to do. That brought the littles total to 58!

Then i have 50 eggs in the bator... And im Dying to candle them! Only day 4 so ima hold off, itll be alot clearer picture in only a few more days.

Hatchery stock:

He was planning on taking those littles off Any light already :/ throwin em into rabbit pens on wire until they grow out.

WTH! We had the woodstove cooking two days ago; today we've got the window open to let some warm air in! Gotta love November in Maryland
Same here!
Ok, something happened last night and I don't know whether to panic, or not worry about it. I went out to the pen to blow some leaves off the top of the run, and into the run, and I lost my earrings. My guess is inside the run, because I was messing with the netting on top, pulling leaves through the overlaps. I was also all over the yard, but its more likely that they popped out while I was bending over in the run, or when I poked myself up through the netting. My concern is not for the earrings, but I wonder if the chicks will eat them? The ear wires are sterling silver, the drop is actual glass! I took my pinpoint metal detector out this morning, but it was still fairly dark outside, so no luck. I'm afraid the big metal detector will just set off everywhere because of all the other metal stuff... fence posts, wire around the exterior, etc. Here is basically what they look like, just different color, which doesn't matter. Should I be concerned that they might eat them?
Are you sure you didn't take them off and leave them somewhere? I'm only asking because I'm famous for loosing earrings. If two are missing, I took them off and can't remember where. If one is missing then I lost it. If you did loose both out there I think they will be ok. After building the run I was a wreck with all the screws and bits of hardware cloth that was cut. I did the metal detector but I still find pieces every now and then. Thankfully the chickens un-bury them and leave them in plain site for me. :fl
That's awesome. I'm getting ready to try that with these 2 welsummer chicks this weekend.
Megan, it was sooo easy! Let me know if you have any questions.
Icelandics are a landrace, a domesticated regional ecotype, from Iceland. They were the only chickens in Iceland for centuries so they are (or were) some of the most genetically pure chickens til around 1930 when the ban on imported chickens was lifted and other breeds were imported into Iceland. They are very diverse in color, comb type, shank color, etc. They come in all colors and comb types. They started to decline in number til around 1970ish I think, til they were almost extinct. A small, pure flock in Iceland made it and that is the flock that all icelandics came from today. There are only an estimated 4000 breeding Icelandic chickens in the world today. There are only 4 true bloodlines, Sigrid, Behl, Hlesey and Vala, they are all named for the people that imported or bred that specific line. I especially like Lyle Behl's birds, they are all mottled. The Hlesey line is pretty as well. They are all very pretty but to me those stand out the most. As far as hardiness, they do slightly better in cold weather than some breeds. Where they come from in Iceland isn't much colder than where I'm at in Va. They do good in hot or cold weather as long as it's not too extreme.
Thanks for posting this. Very interesting. I enjoyed reading it.

Who asked for the information about pumpkins? This is the thread, starting at post # 6173. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/645057/fermented-feeds-anyone-using-them/6170#post_16052421
Me! Thank you!
@RubyNala97 With so much fuzz on their faces, can the big ones even see the little ones? Seriously, though, very cool.
You're probably right!! :gig

He's doing so much better!! Thank you for asking!! I've been doing FF for about 6 months and it's going great. I have a good system down pat now. And this is the first batch of chicks I've hatched that love it! All the others didn't take to it until about 12 weeks. How old are the new chicks?? You've got your hands full! Didn't even know you were setting again. You're gonna be a pro! How's the baby bull?

@mixedUPturk

Nothing happening yet. I just locked down this morning at 8.....but I am having some shakers....one CLB egg and one Silkie egg. I hope most of them if not all of them hatch. I feel either one of the mentioned above will be the first to hatch. The CLB was already having some draw down in the membrane.

@RubyNala97 just an FYI, USPS stops accepting all live shipments until Spring on Nov 10th, so last day to ship is the 9th...

And for anyone curious about the new Fragile/Special Handling charge for sending eggs, don't bother wasting your $... :/

And about the wheat... rinse really well and soak for 24hrs... spread in a well drained tray... wet and drain 2 or 3 times a day, do not let it sit in water as it will mold... you can feed it out either as soon as it starts sprouting or wait till it looks like new grass... I change it up depending on how they enjoy it... for ducks I give them soaked wheat in water or just sprouting and toss it in water...

lazy gardner (I think that's who responded) is right, get non heat treated wheat and non pearled... a good source of sproutable wheat is the suppliers of the survivalists foods... or Sam's Club and Walmart carries large buckets of Red or White Hard Wheat, that is great for sprouting...

Im glad hes doing good, no problem askn.

Also glad the FF is workin well for you. I give the chicks both, but i let them run out of the crumble, so then they Have to eat the FF. Mine are on it full time at 6 wks. At least the two that i hatched w the ducks (theyre all ive got thats that old! At 7wks now and scarfing it up :) )

I set again because i was planning to grow out the first clutch, the ducks, And those last chicks, until at least spring, if not for my flock. Sales went better than i thought, and i never got my own flock quota. I still want to set another clutch of ducks but im still scared of encouraging That Uncle... Also, These are pretty good eggs, and they basically fell into my lap...

The new chicks are variable in age, the hatchery sent a second shipment because 8 of the first one were DOA... I am guessing that they are between one and three weeks. The rocks being the youngest.

Mr Bullwinkle is doing very well! :) thanks for askin! Hes eatin the grain pretty well and walking alright on lead. Ive edited my CL ad, to update it, and we started getting quite a few hits!
