She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Okay!!! So far 2 chicks!!!! One CLB which looks like a cockerel and one CLB/Alsteirer cross. The cross has a weird fluid filled sack just behind its hip joint.....can anyone tell me what this is?

It does not look like yolk either. Unless it busted underneath it's skin. It's very floppy. Lol!!!!

Look up omphalitis (sp?), yolk sac infection in Sally's hatching 101 link... I think it could be that... just be prepared for the worst... :/

And yes, the CLB is a boy... Go Chickies, Go!! :jumpy

It looks like the yolk is still absorbing.

Infection would look green so the chick should be fine soon. Tomorrow you will likely not be able to tell a difference.

It's a subcutaneous edema. Which will more than likely lead to death!! :hit. It's okay. I will give it a fighting chance. It was the first to hatch and is super lively so that's always a good sign. ;)

All this stuff I never knew I wanted to know is driving me quackers.  :lau  Geesh...I quack me up!
My hens must think they're Calls then, if recent egg production is any barometer. Other flocks I've had in the past slowed down during the molt, but never came to a screeching halt for weeks at a time.

Molting seems to be rough this year all over... longer, too...

Oh no!! Maybe it's still early and a few more will start!
:fl I really want some ducklings to hatch!! :fl
It's hard to keep up with both and decide which info to post where or to make duplicate posts, right?
Why? What's up with the size?
Oh ok, gotcha! If you can't even see them then they super fresh and should be fine for the two days.
So cute!! I saw a CL ad for AC chicks and it was picture heavy. It didn't specify what area of NY they were in. I thought maybe you'd be interested in seeing it??

No biggie on the infertile eggs, I kinda figured they might be... is late in season and drakes aren't breeding anymore... except my 2 young ones with Lady Grey's group, lol... those 2 are like rabbits, gotta love the teenage hormone rage...

Lady Grey's eggs are like pullet eggs... size has gotten bigger, but she's not quite up to full size... considering how hard Call eggs are to hatch normally, these will be a miracle if any hatch...

Post the AC listing link... I wanna see too, lol...

Not many things in life worse than a wonky hydrometer.  Well,,,,,,maybe a few things

Wonky thermometer is worse... humidity is relative, temp must be stable... :)

Just remember that Ravyn had stuck an egg in the incubator that (I believe) a broody had quit on and it hatched fine without being in "lockdown" or her raising humidity! :fl

Had a few of those, lol... ;)

Congratulations!
Up here I can only find that one in a can :( there is another one called Coney Island Brewing that is really good, if you like root beer. Kinda tastes like a A&W root beer float.
awe they are so cute! I hope to have some of those next week!
Congratulations!

On a side note I lost power yet again :( and couldn't get the generator started so double :( :( when I couldn't get it started I put a blanket to help hold heat. Thankfully it was only out maybe 2 hours. The temp didn't drop below 80* so I hope they are still ok.

They should be fine... :)

Ruby pmed it to me, and it looks like the could be purebred ACs, but they're actually in NJ, not NY, and have no price listed. A lot of the chicks have yellow belly fuzz too so my guess is the person is trying to sell off some cull chicks they don't want to keep for their breeding flock.

Was just curious... culls gotta go somewhere, no shame in that unless they advertise as better quality...

Btw, I saw the pic of that cockerel that got called a mix... he looked good for a cull! :)

Yep! I sell my culls too, but I fib a little if I'm doing it on CL and call them crosses so nobody gets any ideas about breeding them.

And thanks! Where did you happen to see him? I think the new owner named him Shadow. It was neat to see one of my birds again and know where they ended up.
