Cute babies! Sorry about your incubator. How long was it overheating?
First 16 days till my thermometers arrived so I could set the calibration
So those 8 should be really heat resistant chickens and do well when we have our over 110f weeks next summer
Morning all. Starting to get the hatching bug... but gonna hold off till next month. Plan in place to hatch from older gals first, the ones that gave me auto-sexing and sex links, then hatch from the F1 generation. I doubt very much if there will be any gender id with those after hatch. All of the F1 gals are of better conformation than their mothers! Can't wait to see what F2 looks like!
So, what's been going on with everyone? I see WV is doing Quail.exciting! Anyone else hatching right now? I don't plan to start back up until the end of March. I'm getting about 8-9 eggs a day still. For a while I was down to about 3-4 eggs a day, but they are picking back up. Just in time for the cold snap that we are getting the rest of the week. Not looking foreward to 20 below, but next week we are supposed to be back up in the mid to high 30's. I have some winter chicken pics I took for my fb, I'll have to share some. This has been my first winter with the birds outside-luckily it's been a fair winter.![]()
Frosty is still inside. I'm pretty sure the majority was right and it's a boy. I think I heard him crow in between the barking/yapping sound that I think is him making. I also have Peep inside because after my polish mix beating the crap out of him and I sent him off to the Amish, Elvis started antogonizing him too. So he will get his own mini quarters in the run this spring. Not sure how long he's going to be with us. His leg problems seemed to be doing so good once he was out in the coop then after the others picking on him, he just seemed to go the other way, but we will see.
Plan for this spring is to add a small silkie house. Ruby is going to send me some of her eggs and I am going to breed pure silkies and hopefully at some point, SG's and my Spitzes. I now have just one roo for each coop and going to keep it that way-it's so much easier than dealing with the testosterone. So all birds out of coop one will be mixes and all birds out of coop 2 will be fathered by the Spitz roo, so most will be mixes and my spitz's eggs will be pure. I plan to hatch out some more Spitz if the girl still has them, cause I only have one hen. So I will pull half a dozen mixes probably to sell and have a few more pures in there. Then I will have my silkie coop. That is the plan anyway.

No, I found a great narcissit meme and had to use it, that's why I came back. But since the point was recieved, I am back to me....I knew it!!!! Hatching season is starting back up and I was hogging your stage![]()
I liked the first avatar better, BTW. Say what you want, just spell my name right![]()
So, you still going with the microwave or are you getting a Hovabator this year?
I started incubating the AMs in January and haven't stopped. Sales are through the roof, I have a waiting list for them, so I bought a second Octagon 20. I have 2 batches of AMs in right now, one is on day 17 and the other is on day 13. I'm having fertility issues with these sets, though, so they are going to be my lowest lockdown numbers ever![]()
I'm collecting cuckoo marans eggs to set when the first incubator is empty, and will be setting AMs again in the other. My AMs turned out really nice, and have made my farm change directions from a pet and egg flock to more of a breeder setup.
I also sold off Tate and that whole faulty BCM flock. Last week I got my new BCM chicks from Julie Akers, the same breeder Sidewing got his BCM from, so I am set up for a really good summer![]()

I'd love to be hatching now, but alas, I need to wait one more month. Have plans to go to my besties for a long weekend the beginning of next month if everything goes alright so waiting until after that. I will be starting out with the easy bake, and I am hoping that at some point I can squeeze enough dough out to get the hovabator. The ex and I have a deal that I let him claim our son and he gives me part of the child deduction, but part of that is going for pics and our miny vaca and I need a new phone worse than a bator, so we will tackle the LG. I can't really complain though. It's a bit of work, but the hatches have been great.
Really sold off the BCMs huh??? Congrats on the new line.
You're more of the breeder persona anyway.
How about the silkies??? You still have them right?
No more haystack issues?
