She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

By day 25 it should be pretty much all dark. Maybe just a small area visible just below the air cell.

can I do a float test on a 25-day duck egg and get a correct reading? I really don't want to toss it if it's just growing a little slow and not dead. there is no smell coming from the egg.

It would only smell if bacteria got inside the egg, not if the embryo died... float test won't tell anything candling doesn't... sorry, but that one is long gone... :hugs

I am hatching speckled sussex, shipped eggs. They are pop corn chicks. One hatched 3 zipping, 3 pipped and 2 left to pip.
Congrats on the popcorn. That breed is beautiful!

Does this look right for day 25 duck egg

Looks dead to me, but then those pics posted by Amy look under developed also.

It's not even due yet, and no odor, so, if I were you, I'd just keep my nose well tuned up, and let it ride it out till you're positive it's dead, or day 30, which ever comes first.

Hey water test would show if there was any movement inside the egg though, right?

Movement can be seen by candling though... and if there are any vibrations in the house, water test could give false positive for movement...

I just don't feel there is need for water test... if the embryo is viable, then putting it in water could just increase the chance of getting bacteria pushed through pores...

But just my opinion...

You can, but I find the float test rather useless. If a chick is really active, yeah the float test is going to show that, but so would candling and if it's barely moving it's hard to tell if it's the chick or a bump of the table or something else.

I thought so too!! Well, the last two pics anyway, but it's supposed to be an accurate chart and I am duck dumb.
