She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I'm really feeling like the worst chicken mama in the world. My coop and run are right outside my kitchen door and every time we get a really beautiful day out, I throw some scratch right out the door and let the flock stretch out and get some free time. Whenever the sun starts going down they go back inside the run. When I lock up, I count heads. Never had a problem until last night. I counted and came up way short. I spent the next two hours with a flashlight looking all over my property. I found 1 hen under the baby's stroller right by the back door. But no one else. No feathers, no commotion. This morning my neighbor that lives about 5 houses away (which is pretty far) brought home my paint roo. 6 are still missing. 4 of which are hens. And 2 are the young D'Uccles. I'm so mad at myself. Has anyone ever had chickens disappear and then come home?? I'm putting the baby down for a nap and then I'm going to search the woods.

Aww, Ruby! Im sorry! I hope you find them. And if you don't don't blame yourself, you're a GREAT chicken mama!
Heck I had a LARGE rooster just show up at my house one day. LOL. With mine, they got trained. I would feed them treats before they got the treats, i would make a certain Calling noise. it's kind of cool because each time when I make the noise, Youll see chickens, ducks everything come RUNNING out from ALL over the place because they knew I had there treats. LOL
When we let the birds roam the entire yard, visitors would always flip when I would call and they would come out of every crack and under every rock to see what I had.

I got ya. LOL, and no that's not a very large increase. LOL,

My girls right now are litterally FIGHTING over eggs. I'm like GIRLS, you have four, you have six, you have 10 and you have 8, THERE's enough eggs for all of you to hatch out babies, STOP PECKING at each other and stop taken each others eggs. GRRR..

They are NOT LISTENING AT ALL TO ME...

Have you guys ever used Vaseline??  I have never, just wondering if you were very successful with it.  Perhaps it will be my next experiement.. LOL

Yes, I've always used vaseline to moisten membranes, because my Neo had pain reliever in it the first time I needed something, so I went with the vaseline. Always been successful with it too. It does not seem to dry out at all.

Keep in mind, I'm only talking a few times, I dont assist often! Lol

This, but I don't use chips, I use straw, thanks to a tip I got from Walnuthill. It works really well. This hatch has been rough. I am not sure what went wrong, aside from rough shipping. We have weak chicks that can't push out, one that has crossbeak(top much shorter than bottom and REALLY crossed) so bad that it can't zip(and I am not helping it b/c I don't want to have to cull it later:hit ), and this one with the intestine issue. Only 6 of the 12 that went into lockdown externally pipped. Of the other 6, one is cheeping internally since the day before yesterday but hasn't externally pipped, the rest aren't showing any signs of life at all. Today is day 21. I'm pretty mad at the post office right now. This is the worst hatch I have ever had BY FAR. On the bright side: :jumpy
Sorry about your rough hatch, Chooks. :hugs and hope your guy with the open navel heals well. I can't wait until I don't need shipped eggs anymore. In fact, I'm about fed up with the problems in shipping and the problems with the change in altitude. Out of 18 shipped eggs, I left 6 in at lockdown but only 3 of those probably have a chance at hatching. Luckily the one that hatched zipped out quickly without a problem. Nothing yet from the other 5, but I'm on day 20. Hope you get a few more. The ones in the picture are adorable!
