I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I would keep it clean and give it some time. I bought this navel antibiotic spray at my feed store. It starts with a "v". I've really liked having it on hand so far. I can find the name if you're interested.
Me too. I but the extra soft kind called Viva. They absorb great and it's easy to clean. I just pick up the old one and put new ones down, for the first few days.
Could it be genetics too? I can't remember if scissor beak is genetic. Shipping is just terrible on eggs. It's so sad.you're doing a great job! I would put a little safety hole in the internally pipped one.![]()

Ive been in love since I saw your avy. It's beautiful! Great shot, too. It's nice when it happens like that.Female Silver duckwing OEGB![]()
That's a great idea!I actually use coconut oil now... semi solid and melts on the warmth from the baby, spreads easy and doesn't leave the babies looking greased afterwards like vaseline can...
I assisted one like that before, it died later. The one I mentioned earlier that was taking so long before I assisted took 2 days after internally pipping, then tried to pip and zip, but ran out of steam. The membrane was drying out, which is why I helped it, but when i started to pull the MB back, I did still see very small veins and there was some blood left behind, but not a lot.
Guess I don't have any advice, but that's my experience. Good luck, that part of hatching can be so stressful.
I would pick off more of just the shell to give it flex room... other than that, not much you can do at this point... it's a may or may not make it I think... assisting before it's ready will be disastrous, so waiting is probably best... if it has the strength it will make it, just be prepared... I'm sorry... :/Well, this one still hasn't hatched. Still see blood veins. He still peeping and opening and closing his mouth like he is sucking up the yolk. Something has to be wrong or do some take that long? I don't know what to do.![]()
Honestly, I would stick it back in the bator and let nature run its course there... scissor beak might be bator temp caused or genetic, either way unbreedable just to be safe... and if it lives it will be a very special needs... depends on if you want to/can do that... Blech, sorry for the rough stuff... :/Boy, what a long day/night/day. I was full on red team this go around and I am glad I was or only two of them would have made it. We have 6 that are in the clear now!! I am really torn about what to do with the scissor beak chick, though. It's still alive, and bless its poor little heart, it wants out. But the scissor beak is really bad and I have heard/read that when it's that bad at hatch, mortality rate is high. Here is a pic, tell me what you guys think:![]()
I think I'd be inclined to cull this one.Boy, what a long day/night/day. I was full on red team this go around and I am glad I was or only two of them would have made it. We have 6 that are in the clear now!!

Ive just never used to or expermented with it, so I'm just looking for your guys input. i will give it shot if every have the need for it.Blockage? How? I've used it many times... a dab on a qtip, gently rubbed into the membrane... run the dry end of qtip up and around the nares to make sure it's clear and good to go...

I recommend vaseline to people since it's something a lot of people have stuffed in the back of the cabinet somewhere, lol...
