She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Better to ask a Marans question here 'cause the Marans thread can be vicious! (LOL)
Yes, you'd better not go on that thread with a thin skin

Marans people will forgive you for saying BCM or FBCM, but please, for the love of all that is holy, don't ever EVER say maran when referring to a single bird. As a matter of fact, if you are searching for marans on CL, and someone has black copper maran chickens advertised, move along

Same with Ameracana/Americana/Araucanas 99.9% of the time they are EEs. Doesn't help that hatcheries sell EEs labeled as Ameraucana or some strange spelling variation. Fairly hard to get true stock.

I was a victim of this. I called my birds Americanas until I joined BYC. I still love my Easter Eggers, but they are not Ameraucanas. The hatcheries are totally to blame. They sell them that way, and people don't know better

Mid 50s. Before my time, but it was an icon here in the states. I mean, it was no "Absolutely Fabulous", but it was funny;)

Most certainly before my time then :gig

Ab Fab!! That was a good one and how they got away with some of the things they did I don't know.

Now "Little Britain" is a show I really don't know how they got away with that at all. Certainly pushed the boundaries to the limit!!

I ran into a website about Marans before I started asking about them and boy I'm glad I did. The frenchness of the whole thing almost put me off. But the eggs and birds are too beautiful to be scared off. Disclaimer: My wife is french and amazing, but a "french" attitude can be... off putting.

Did you guys not get the honeymooners in the UK? Amy made a "moon" reference. That was the husband's catch phrase on the show. He had a sassy, redheaded wife (imagine that), and when he got mad, he would say "Bang, zoom, to the moon"
POW, strait to the Moon! .... I'm getting old.

At first I thought an Ameraucana was any mix from a Aruacana, but boy was I wrong. At least to the SOP. I honestly still think that at the end of the day is mostly true. I had a guy tell me that an EE chick was not an Ameraucana because it was not a Standard Color. Well I have seen a lot of Wyandottes, orps, etc from famous breeders that don't fit the Standard Color bub! That's a terrible reason to call it an EE. Not that it wasn't, I just thought that was a stupid reason.

It's tough. It is the hatcheries fault, but it's also the general public. If you had a hatchery and called them EEs they probably don't sell. People thing "Ameraucana = Blue/Pink/Yellow egg". Not sure what I would do in their position either.

So how can you tell a difference? I am curious seeing I have one and call her both and EE and Americauna. LoL!
