Everyone knows how I feel about Brinsea, and I would love to have an ova easy, but from all I have read, if I ever get into to 180 egg and higher category, I would have to strongly consider the GQF
That's good to hear, especially considering the price difference between the Ova-Easy 190 and the GQF. If I bought the
Brinsea 40, it would just be as a hatcher, and that seems like a waste.
The crazy thing is that my homebuilt is nearly as good as any professional quality incubator up until lockdown, and I could finish it and make those tweaks I planned on doing including the bottom hatcher with air filtration or a separate hatcher.
While driving around and wondering where in Michigan I could find a supplier for redwood to build the cabinet, it came to me...scrapped hot tub surrounds.
All I'd need to do is pressure wash it, dry it, machine it as necessary, and build my incubator cabinet.
I could buy one but my "cheapskate" gene kicked in. Guess I am too much of a farm gal to buy what I can build or restore.
If an antique kerosene incubator were to show up on my doorstep today, I have a retrofit plan that will allow me to use the water jacket design. I might build my hatcher as a hot water design. I love the radiant heat in the old Leahy, even when on I can bump my hand on the wire under the heating elements and not get burned, so it's safe for little turkeys too. Don't try that with the LG...
