She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

LOL!

This is going to be hard passing the time. I hope they all hatch by Monday, because of course it's the only day I won't be around!

Gonna be a long weekend lol. Mine are due Monday, so I dont even expect a pip till tomorrow at the earliest.. especially battling dipping temps.. But I still keep looking for them! Positive vibes your way!

I haven't caught up yet, but I wouldn't hold out high hopes for the bird in the second photo to survive.

That is the most starved and neglected bunch of birds I've seen in a long time. Kudos to you to taking on the challenge. Be sure to keep a strong quarantine for at least 30 days.
Why would you say that about the second pictured? I am just curious. I think it looks like Beaky Buzzard. It moves around a lot and eats and drinks pretty well. I am in a strong quarantine for that long at least! They are about to start week 2. Right now they are on a strong dose of antibiotics as well to help kill any colds, infections they may have. I still need to get to the store to get some Sevin Dust for the lice I found on them yesterday. I am trying my best to make sure they dont come into contact with my healthy birds.

This new batch of chicks is really giving me a lot of experience, to say it nicely. I woke up to two pasty butts and a bloody navel. I soaked the pasty butts. The chick that had it the most got back in the brooder and took a massive, you know what. I bet he sure felt better! I put a little bacitracin on the bloody navel. It looks like a little something is sticking out of the navel. Is that anything to be concerned about? Also, I was wondering if anyone knows what color this silkie chick might be. It has some grey but also some warmer colors. His head & face has broken color. I'm thinking maybe splash, but I really don't know.

Cuteness overload!!!!!! Congrats on your fluffy butts!

Everyone knows how I feel about Brinsea, and I would love to have an ova easy, but from all I have read, if I ever get into to 180 egg and higher category, I would have to strongly consider the GQF

That's good to hear, especially considering the price difference between the Ova-Easy 190 and the GQF. If I bought the Brinsea 40, it would just be as a hatcher, and that seems like a waste.

The crazy thing is that my homebuilt is nearly as good as any professional quality incubator up until lockdown, and I could finish it and make those tweaks I planned on doing including the bottom hatcher with air filtration or a separate hatcher.

While driving around and wondering where in Michigan I could find a supplier for redwood to build the cabinet, it came to me...scrapped hot tub surrounds.

All I'd need to do is pressure wash it, dry it, machine it as necessary, and build my incubator cabinet.

I could buy one but my "cheapskate" gene kicked in. Guess I am too much of a farm gal to buy what I can build or restore.

If an antique kerosene incubator were to show up on my doorstep today, I have a retrofit plan that will allow me to use the water jacket design. I might build my hatcher as a hot water design. I love the radiant heat in the old Leahy, even when on I can bump my hand on the wire under the heating elements and not get burned, so it's safe for little turkeys too. Don't try that with the LG...

So cute and cuddly!

Maybe it's just the picture, but for the size of the feet and the amount of feathering compared to the overall shrunken and shriveled look to the face, it looks like it was the runt and kept away from what food there was. It looks like a very unthrifty bird. TLC may allow it to make a full comeback, though!

Okay. It seems fine. Although I think I need to bathe it. Its feathers are all dirty. I should probably bathe them all. Most of them are doing well. The feathers are already growing back on the one who was completely bald backed! LoL! Poor babies. I have such a heart! I want to say this will be the only time this happens but we shall see. What if you know who the people are that are doing this? Should I say something? This is terrible. I can only imagine what his backyard must look like.

Mine are due Monday too. I didn't expect anything until tomorrow night, maybe. I don't know why this guy is early, no temp spikes and steady between 99/100 degrees. I did notice he was ahead of the rest so that's why I put a "#1," mark on him in pencil. Just to see since he looked ahead, if he would actually hatch first- it was hubby's idea. I actually noticed that the AM chicks seemed to fill out the eggs first, sooner than the BLRW's. Maybe it's just my imagination, we shall see!
