I have no idea where those are, but we will be taking the ferry across the St. Clair River, heading up along the Lake Huron coastline to Bruce Peninsula, and staying at either Sauble Falls or Bruce Peninsula, then going on a waterfall hunt in the countryside around Owen Sound before turning homeward.

I'll check a map but I have a feeling you're a couple of hours east.

They just made fireworks legal in NY. My grandmother has been dropping truck loads off at my house for the kids. They are too young to play with them. So guess who has to light them and then across the yard like a maniac so they don't catch on fire...yup, me! But thank you! Hope you enjoyed the Canadian holiday too. Ugh! I don't regularly check my temp on my incubator because normally, it always holds steady. But I checked tonight and I was at 98.5!! I don't even know how long it's been there. I took an egg out yesterday, so maybe that did it. So I adjusted but now it's going too high. I wish I noticed earlier instead of having to watch it when I want to crawl in bed!

Aww, man! Hopefully it'll be okay! We've had our LG running for three days now and can't stabilize the temp. Even once we do I probably won't set eggs, for the exact reason you just described.

I really feel bad about my post about someone's gender, I really wish I hadn't...but at the same time, there's really something to be said about revealing who is of what gender...I know I will be surprised, and I think it could really be empowering. Ok, so we all think Amy is F, and SC is M...and I'm clearly a dumb M...and Ruby is clearly an amazing F...but their are lots of others who haven't wanted to state. I get that, not trying to get anyone date requests from guys with useless flocks.

I really didn't intend to bring up the gender issue, but its clear I screwed up, and if you don't state your gender but state what you've experienced, is there an opportunity here to give more insight into who farms? Or should I let my paux faux lie on the ground??

Not a problem at all I would think .everyone who post on here seems to be supper nice and really in to there chickens .always ready to jump in and help with whatever. If you read from the beginning when SC had everyone trying figure out who we all were like you wouldn't have been able to stop laughing. I'm either John boy's daddy or uncle Jessie from the Dukes of Hazard. My wife says maybe John Boy's daddy but not uncle Jessie .this is just a really good thread where you can say and ask almost anything , someone has it covered .we know everything just ask us we'll tell you and what we don't know well we'll find someone else who will know so you fit right in. my wife tells me all the time I'm not normal so I feel right at home here.

After re-reading that... Are you saying that revealing your gender changed your "expertness"? Or you quit doing it because they found out you were female?

Yeah as stupid as it sounds, advice on cars from a woman caused issues for some men. Didn't make any difference to me except the hate mail that ensued. I got tired of it. My website with all my docs is still online but I don't participate in the forum any more.

think about this when a doctor puts you on meds its only for 7 to 10 days the reason for tis is bugs build up a resistance to meds. making them useless the net time the bug shows up . you should never give any medicine for more than 14 days at a time and the animal or bird is not better change the meds.to a different type. I never feed medicated chick starter for more than that from hatch to 7 or 10 days after that I feed non medicated chick starter .

Never ran into any hate mail or issues like you mention, but letting people know you are a girl can definitely change the way they treat you. I like being just one of the guys whenever I can. No preferential treatment needed. Rolling with the punches is what I do best.

Medicated chick starter is different, it's supplemented with Amprolium, which isn't an antibiotic and doesn't cause bug immunity. It just helps keep coccidia at a manageable level while birds grow tolerance. I agree with you completely in not medicating if not medically necessary when it comes to antibiotics.

You do what you have to do to protect your chickens so I've been thinking egg stealer for a couple of days now but working latter these days going to check sign tomorrow . I might have to do the same. what kind of snake was it and was it the same one that got your pullet. and btw have a good and safe fourth everyone .
