She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

That comment just hurt me.  I have been in the south way too long. I miss the mountains. I like it here but I don't want to die here.

Personally if things work out the way we want them to...then we will have a charter business here and in Alaska so it gives an excuse to move back up there for a few months. And I am sorry. I did not mean to hurt your feelings.

Ok, so I have Big Brother on because one of our "hometown boys" is on it this season, and I still don't get the draw to this show. I just don't understand. Not that it has anything to do with chickens...lol

Never did get that show. But I'm not one for "reality" tv. Reality tv killed the good stuff. Boo, Viacom!! BOOOOOOOO.
What a day! Drank to much coffee today and now I'm so tired but the caffeine is still in my system! My hatch is over! 3 peachicks hatched and are in the brooder! They are very different then chicken chicks! Much less independent and less hardy. I do have a question. The one I assisted out is having a hard time getting his legs/feet under him. None of them can really walk yet. They take longer to be mobile then chickens. I examined him and there doesn't seem to be a physical problem. No curled feet or splayed legs or hip issues. Do you think because he was assisted and didn't use his leg muscles to break out that maybe they are just not strong enough yet?
In other news, my 8 week olds went out to the coop today! Thank goodness someone on here told me to run a light out there into the coop. They are so scared. Every time I check on them they are roosting right next to the light. I feel so bad for them. Never thought I'd be so attached to Chickens. They are the first babies I ever hatched. I think I'll go check on them one more time. Hehe. And the run is done! It came out better then I dreamed. It's awesome! I'll take pics tomorrow. Last question. If I'm training the chicks to know that the coop is home, should I not let them out in the run for a few days?

Good news all round! Go, Wonder Woman!

Congrats on your peas! Three peas in a pod!

Turkey poults also take longer to be fully mobilized than chicks. Give them two days to get their "land legs" before being concerned. Encourage them to get up and move around by moving the light around the brooder if possible. They will move toward the light.

Nothing compares to the Alaskan mountain range. We had two boys born there. I miss it. We were going to move back there but our parents are getting old and our kids are closest to them. (Even though my siblings all live within 2 hours of my parents and don't really visit unless they needs something.). As much as I wanted to move back, I knew it would break my parents hearts. So we moved to Ohio. But I still dream of Alaska.

I finished my incubator diagnostics and have the parts on order. I'm skipping the plexi door for now, but I ordered the latest and greatest electronic thermostat to replace the old solid state and wafer combo. Both the timer motor and turner motor are bad, but the roller switch, timer switch, and turner switch all test good.

This incubator is sitting next to my homebuilt right now and I can't get over how tiny it is. And how loud the fan is. It moves a LOT of air.

I have a buyer for the LG 9200, now to find a buyer for the Leahy and I will be down to 400 turkey egg capacity.

You will get a chance one day. It's good to be close to your family eap when they need you the most.

I have different results with every batch. Some take straight to the coop, some need to be carried for a few days. I'm still having a hard time with my Ameraucanas (pics to follow). In my bigger coops, I will leave them in it for a couple of days, but they still seem to want to stay outside when it starts getting dark. I've had to carry them at night for as much as a week, but I have also had some that learned after 2 days. The Polish were the worst. They had one of the biggest coops, and still roosted on their playset at night

Alaska is definitely on my bucket list

Ok, here are some updated pics on the Ameraucanas. I am in love with these birds. The colors are beautiful, and I can't wait to see them all feather out. I got 17 total, and it's looking like about 50/50 cockerels to pullets, so if I wind up with 8 or 9 girls I will be in good shape. Three of them are 8 weeks old, so pretty much feathered out already. Even the solid blacks are beautiful. The ones I can't wait to see feather are the 2 splash. I think there's one girl and one boy, and they are very pretty

Think the big blue is a roo...

Splash in the middle. Can't wait to see how that one feathers in:
