She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

It has taken me a few days to catch up on this thread. I have been awol for a few as my oldest daughter got married yesterday. Even though I am biased she was absolutely stunning.

It was a beautiful wedding. In chicken news I am on day 14, and the 1 egg of the 14 set was definitely not fertile and was removed. The egg that both ends were fat and was placed with the air cell down for the first 7 days and has been the correct way for the last 7 days looks peculiar. They all have beautiful veining and moving around. My youngest daughter is over from England for the wedding and filmed one of them. She really enjoyed it. My air cells are a bit on the small side and I have barely added any water this hatch, humidity is very high down here on the gulf coast so I probably won't add any water until lock down on Thursday night.
Edited to add pic of my 3 babies and myself.
Awesome.

First, why has staff been back to edit posts?

And Amy, I must have lost your cake pic in my multi quoting!!! Awesome job!!! I bet your dad loved it!!!
I was wondering the same thing. And thank you.

Glad you had a good time and your dad got to enjoy his day! We went to a family gathering too. Got to see my dads side of the family after not seeing them for many years. It was nice. Did you post a pic of your dads cake?? Hoping all the chicks are ok when I get home!

What time of night does everyone lock up their chickens for the night?

I lock mine away when it gets dark out and they have all gone in to thier roost. About 5pm at the minute. If we are going out and not likely to be back for sunset I put them to bed before we leave

I dont lock my coops. The runs are locked up. If I have let the chicks out of the run into the yard, they usually head back in around 8-8:30. Except for Gemma, my turkey. I have a heck of a time getting her to go in! I usually have to snatch her off the top of the coop right at dusk. Do a head count, then lock the run. So its usually all right at dark.

Ok so we have 8 pullets that are about 12 weeks. We are picking up another 9 next week. If I was to buy a rooster too, should I get 1 or 2 for that amount of hens???

One isn't quite enough, but that's not quite enough hens for 2 roosters, especially if they are fighting. I would go with one, then see how my fertility was running when he starts doing his job

First hiccup with my styrobator on day 16(?)! The thermostat switch didn't switch and the temp spiked to 5x*c for 10-20 minutes. I did cool off the eggs as soon as I noticed and checked to make sure the switch was working again.

Not translating that to F in case it makes me faint. Well, I DID want to kill a few after all...

Ha that is my son and my 2 girls not the groom. Thanks for the compliment.
I I am going dry for the last few days before lock down because my air cells didn't grow ad much as they should have.

It depends on how much room the hens have to get away. If penned in a run, one roo should be able to cover them. I have 2 roos over 175 hens and get 50% fertility.
