I made an ankle hook and it's much easier to catch them.Oh, and update on my 19 6 week 3 day olds. It is amazing the transition from 4-5 week olds to 6+. Earlier if I walked into the run they all ran and hid...and the roos would run up to me after they hid. Now they all run to me, even though I'm carrying no food. The scary thing is that now they are slightly larger than my foot, so if I step on one stuff will stick out all around...sorry, bad image, but they stick so close to me its a fear I have.
There's so many different colors and patterns its awesome. I got pure white with a few black dots, pure black with white dots on the end of every feather, totally red sexlink looking, and totally BCM looking...and then the oddballs. Gotta go find me a wire hanger so I can make a foot hook. At 8 weeks I'm going to catch all the BCM looking females and toss them into the main run...be bold or go home...the rest will go to processing (hens at 10 weeks, roos at 14).
Tagged my 2 BCM roos today, finally. They are a week younger than the rest so there's still a noticeable size difference, but I figured it wouldn't be long before that would become a hard distinction. Of course within minutes one had thrown his Velcro wrap...lolz, luckily I had just put food down so he was not paying any attention to my hand swooping down...;-] And wow, re-learning how to feed young ones...its like an exponential scale...lolz.
Just got done reading all 603 pages. I can't believe it. Just tagging along learning all I can before I even attempt to hatch anything.
Cute! I need a few of these one day.
Love it! I think this is something that most of us have in common on here.
Great article! Thanks! Finally! Stuck in a fireworks booth with a phone whose battery needs to be kept up for the credit card reader (and actual phone calls--being in charge of the 2 booths here in town means my phone rings more than once a day LOL) makes for some backlog ;-) Good thing everyone else has been busy, too.
Anyway, I just wanted to leave a link to something I wrote for a general knowledge site--it just went up today. http://h2g2.com/edited_entry/A87846547
Remind me again what you sent and how many?Yeah!!!! Good luck! Today is day 14 so I will be candling tonight.
Well played sir. I want a real group of AMs one day. Working with EEs right now.Ok, here are the pics of the new Ameraucanas. After doing a little research yesterday, I am very happy with the purchase. They are the offspring of birds purchased directly from Paul Smith. I had never heard of him before, so I googgled. He is a huge breeder from Texas who is also on the board of directors of the Ameraucana Breeders Club. I had no idea. The woman I bought them from didn't mention that in the ad, but she told me when I went to pick them up. She sent me an email Paul had sent her telling her how to identify which birds came from which of his pens. These are the most direct from the breeder birds I have ever bought, only 1 generation removed. I think I accidentally scored a great deal![]()

Thanks! That is exactly what I want to build for a hatcher, but in a plastic cooler rather than foam cooler. Very cool, and results show it's good!
That is awesome! Ugly as sin, but the results speak for themselves. Good job![]()
I'm sorry. Dangitt, now I feel too bad to make another jokefor a GoPro, yes. But the ducky is dead. Dogs :/
thanks. And I believe it would of been a she. Her siblings were killed by the drake, so I raised her in my bathroom.I'm sorry. Dangitt, now I feel too bad to make another jokefor a GoPro, yes. But the ducky is dead. Dogs :/
Sorry about the eye Amy. Hope it feels better. Glad you have your son there to take care of you!

It wasn't the same bird so he only fooled me once....I'm gonna let it go, because I know it hurt, but you know what they say. "Fool me once..."
If I buy you a GoPro will you wear it in the pen?
What the heck is a GoPro?will you buy me a GoPro? Hehe. Those things are expensive.

A GoPro is a wearable, all weather camera that lets you record encounters like this:
