She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I'm not positive but I think one of their biggest design flaws is that probe that hangs down for the thermostat. From what I've gathered, any movement from that thing causes your major fluctuations. And just about everyone that I have seen that use them has to set the thermostat at least a degree (I've seen up to 3) higher to get the actual reading to be right inside the bator.
I get mad every time I hear the 9300 mentioned. They are so available, and the worst incubator on the market. There's no telling how many people actually buy them, have dismal hatches, then give up. I think BYC should file a class action against TSC

I'm sort of regretting this whole peachick experience. I didn't realize what "imprint" really entails. These chicks are getting BIG. I've been putting them in a cage outside of the chicken run for a week. Trying to let them interact with other birds. Well yesterday I put them in the actual run. They stayed at my feet, starring up at me, crying. I told them go make friends & threw a bunch of worms on the ground. No luck. Then they were all riled up when I brought them inside for bed. Pacing the cage in a panic. I opened the door to the cage and sat on the couch to see what they wanted. All 3 of them flew out of the cage. One landed on each shoulder and the last one flew right on top of my head! I felt like Ace Ventura! They definitely have identity issues. And they make me feel a nut case! Feeling guilty about getting rid of them but don't know how much longer I can deal with this insanity.

And that is why, even though I brood my poults in the house for three weeks, that I keep them in a room out of eyesight of me. They know I am there, I visit occasionally, but if I gave them the run of the house they'd overrule the dog and take over ownership. This way they don't cry when I am not in eyesight, like they did when I brooded in the public areas of the house.

When they go outside to the coop, it's definitely a culture shock to see so many other birds. They are in a safe room where they can see everyone, and all the activity holds interest for them. Over a week or so they start interacting with the other birds, and when big enough they are incorporated into the flock.

I'd suggest putting them outside and letting them learn to be fowl.

I prefer FFH to TSC. I have gotten more & better advice from FFH. Their department employees actually have chickens & ducks or lots of experience with them. At TSC I get oh I dont have chickens / ducks or its been so long since I had them I dont remember.

LOL I cringe when I see someone say say they bought one....lol

So you would recommend these 3? I was looking at the 1602N Hovabator.
Just about any of the Hovabators. Myself I want the 1588, but that's about $50 more. I'll probably settle for 1583. I was just giving you some links for the Hovabator choices in that price range that I saw. I've heard good things with just about all their models.

When I decided to buy another incubator, it was between the 1588 and the Brinsea. I just went with the Brinsea because of the reviews. I needed something I could walk away from. I'd like to try a 1588

You know what would fix them? Take them out to the pen, turn them around where they can see all the others, then

the crap out of them

I'm sorry, I still have issues because of the one that screamed when I didn't know it was there

I have the same feelings about quail. Cute little birds, but I once stepped into a covey. They explode, upward, some right in your face...

Noises are weird but unexpected contact is worse. Like getting divebombed by a blue jay when mowing the lawn...

:lau Ruby! Don't heed SC's advice!

Speaking of peacock screams, one of my SS hens screams often. Is that normal? It sounds a good deal like a peacock
