I haven't had crab legs in a long time - that sounds good!

I witnessed my first mouse slaughter tonight. I had the group out for some free range time and all of a sudden I heard a pitiful squeek and looked over to see one of my barred girls with a baby mouse. He was so little and so cute. My son wanted to save him, but by then it I figured it was more merciful to let her finish it. Not that it mattered because before I could assess it further my black hen Raven had the head and the barred rock was gulping down the body. Poor little mouse. May I never pass out in the coop or run.

Elvis is doing extremely well. Got the Blue Kote. (Why don't they call it purple kote?) Got it on him and made no big mess, but it did run down his ear. Poor thing looked like a dog shaking his head trying to clear his ear.

I watched one of our ducks do that with a lizard... poor OH was ticked... he loves the lizards around here, lol...

I'm honestly on the fence about it. But I tend to trust the system God setup. I'm sure my hatchery chicks were and I'm not too worried about it.

after the report I had done last year I know It's in my flock. so I'm sure that the chicks I bought were vaccinated .but the ones I hatched weren't .the birds I have lost had symptoms like what Silkie's had . I have not had time to research the second vaccine Don told us about but will. I think that is my killer. we have wild turkeys that come very close to my chickens. when I say very close I mean within fifty feet. dog or coyote tracks that close also .I have found those inside the center shed between the coops. forgot to close the gate .I left the small dog kennel and plan to get red healers soon.as soon as it's presentable I'll post pictures construction still going on. and I guess It will for a while. its what's the word ecollectic don't know If that's spelled right in other words a bunch of junk thrown together. quick story many years a blight hit the American chestnut trees killed them all or so it would seem I remember picking them as a child .now while it killed the trees it did not kill the roots.so for all this years the roots have send out sprouts just when they reach the age to bare fruit the blight kills them. this in its self is amazing what is more amazing is that this trees are very close to beating the blight .I know where two or three are that have been baring fruit for at least three years and hope to pick chestnuts this fall I just wish they belonged to me .moral of the story is if left alone nature will win in the end. the echo system is so fragile and we have screwed it up so bad . I only hope it can be fixed some how .if using chemicals use the direct spot method apply to a cut vine or tree stump with a foam brush .fungicides do eye damage be careful using them spraying any chemical is very dangerous .
