All of the heading plants will bear before December, but the greens will last straight through until they go to seed in the spring. It's so nice to have a fresh supply of greenery for the chickens in the winter.Winter garden. What a concept. Ours freezes solid in November and doesn't thaw until April.
I am picking my second week of sweet corn, my first few canning tomatoes from a plant I overwintered inside, and my first peppers. I know that greens are pretty cold hardy, might be worth seeing how long into the season they last. My potato patch is empty so I have a little room.
In the rare event that we get a 2-3 inch snow, the greens will pop right back up once the ground thaws
