So are you talking about large shipments of eggs from breeders to the hatcheries that most BYC flocksters buy their chicks from? And is it seriously up to 2 weeks? Is this so they can have a full shipment of a particular breed hatch on a certain day? I had read a similar study some time ago, but unable to find it since.

My posts keep disappearing. Try again: Sally, is this a method used by large hatcheries when they receive shipments of eggs from their breeders? Do they do this so that they will have a full shipment of a particular breed on a certain date? Or is there an other benefit? I read a similar study some time ago, but have not been able to find it since then. Did you post it???

Welcome, Sally!!!

Don't worry, we all KNOW what's on SC's mind and we haven't run screaming for the hills, lol... as for keeping up, no worries... we'd just like to pick your brain when you have the time... :D ;)

Just talked to Oz the other day, he's still in the Philes... I'll ask him about dropping by when he gets back to good service again... hoping to have some awesome news in 3 weeks as well, we'll see...

Glad to hear you're doing better, Sally... very much understand fighting depression... :hugs

I'm sorry, I had to go back and read and see what I wrote wrong. You don't have to order it online, but you have to register the product online to make The warranty go into effect. sorry for the confusion

@ozexpat are you becoming stuffy? ha ha ha this post made me chuckle! I quite enjoy Oz's dry humor and straight forwardness. I respect him for it, I agree with him that his thread is his tale and an enjoyable read, his Diary to be shared! He is quite the busy man for idle chat, but he and I both enjoy good conversation, we tend to enjoy educational discussions that can help others along with our own endeavors. Love that man so much can you tell? He is a supportive, knowledgeable, and loving friend from our first private message. Anyway... carry on BYC is a forum! Thats why its here and anyone that knows me knows I am a goofball here to help when I can. Unfortunately last year took its toll on my body and now the good Lord is helping me to carry on and get back into my life! How have you been @lazy gardener

I missed BYC and everyone here, I had to spread into some health support groups for a while to help me understand my health, healing and to be honest, just needed help coping with the depression illness can bring. Sunshine was being lost very fast for me, I need help bringing that sunshine back!

Please never do that, but have caution.... those mods

KUDOS to the Mods for keeping it safe for my daughter to be on here too! Everyone should thank a Mod!

So glad you could stop by and join the insanity!! If SC gets out of hand just give him one of these:

So here's my updates:

1) I was supposed to tell everyone that if we tag Sally she will drop in to say hi. (I gave her the inside scoop about the thread so she's prepared)! But my morning was so busy she beat me to it!

2) I woke up and the little quail was still alive and peeping! But his feet were curled. Now I know that he's just a quail. $2 for a dozen eggs. But any experience I gain can be directly applied to chickens that I hatch! So all experience is valuable to me. So I made him little tape booties and he's doing great! It was a real challenge to make them since he's so tiny!!

Off to set the rest of the eggs!!!
You are really tempting me to bid on those quail eggs I was looking at on ebay the other day!

Well this "girl" could probably handle all 17!

(I'm going to be terribly embarrassed if I figure out this weekend that those eggs are coming from LO's!!)

Whoa! She's supposed to be a she?

If that chicken laid an egg she should be wearing flannel and Doc Martins

Is this so they can have a full shipment of a particular breed hatch on a certain day? I had read a similar study some time ago, but unable to find it since.

please remember the majority of the research is conducted by big hatcheries that supply us with broilers/laying hens for our consumption. With that in mind egg storage is a logistical necessity for the hatching egg industry both at the breeder farm and at the hatchery. We all know that storing eggs longer than seven days will negatively influence hatchability. One of the methods these hatcheries have found to reduce the negative effects of long-term storage is to incubate eggs for short periods before storage. To make a long study of this practice short.... The embryo has a developmental stage and this stage is better able to survive long-term storage. In knowing these farms and hatcheries will have shipping delays etc, its in everyones best interest to research the best hatchability rate and with the best chick quality outcome.

There are several things I would get into when it comes to requesting your eggs from a shipper as a BYC enthusiast, but we can save that for a later time.

Just got in from the garden, tearing a lot of stuff out so I can prep for next year. Took Jack and 3 of the girls with me to help - they stuffed themselves on grasshoppers and other bugs!

Brought in a few of my Sandia Hot chiles and roasted them over the burner - once they are done steaming we'll have egg burritos for lunch.

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Isn't it though?!!  And what about those wattles!!

See, anyone who feels bad about their silkies, just has to ask for pics of mine.  I'm just doing my part to make all yall feel better!

See! That's an upbeat attitude!! Seriously though, let's all chip in and get a DNA test done and solve this mystery!!

Thank all of you again for the advice. I really appreciate it. At this point I'm just going to keep going the way I have been and take the turner out at day 12 and cross my fingers that atleast 1 will make it. I'm going on a treasure hunt this weekend to find my Nankin's nest and I'll hatch some of those once I know what's going on with these Welsummer eggs. Welcome to the thread Sally Sunshine :frow thanks for the advice :)

Just keep making sure your temps and humidity are right and stable. Tomorrow is day 7, so check again for veins. I think once you see veins you'll feel a lot better!! My very first hatch was shipped eggs. I had read a lot but doing it hands on was different. I couldn't even find the air cell! So I let them rest 48 hours and started full turning. All the air cells were loose. And half hatched! So there is still hope for them!!
