Everyone knows I'm a Teddy Bear

There are several things I would get into when it comes to requesting your eggs from a shipper as a BYC enthusiast, but we can save that for a later time.
Just got in from the garden, tearing a lot of stuff out so I can prep for next year. Took Jack and 3 of the girls with me to help - they stuffed themselves on grasshoppers and other bugs!
Brought in a few of my Sandia Hot chiles and roasted them over the burner - once they are done steaming we'll have egg burritos for lunch.
Hope everyone is having a good day!
Put your bear away, sc... no need for it yet...![]()

We are planning on doing a ship-a-thon in spring! Maybe you could get into it sometime in the future before spring! That would be awesome!!
Oh that sounds so good!!! I've had a sick baby all week and haven't been able to get to the store. The fridge is looking bare! I'm craving what you're making!!![]()
On a chicken note: Koritsa, my ornery teenage cockerel, has given me a wide berth today. This afternoon he looked at me funny and I pinned him with his beak to the ground and firmly held him there until he gave up. Now he won't come anywhere near me.
In hatching news, I'm trying to hatch this quail egg! 21 hours and no progress. So I went to make the pip hole bigger (it was just a crack) and he had pipped the shell but not the outer membrane. So I made a hole and found his beak. Then took my flashlight and looked for veins. I saw one going down to the pointy end. So I'm waiting. If he's able, can he hatch by himself or will he need further assistance now that I intervened?

Thank you!
Thank you! That was the plan in my head, I just needed reassurance. I'm not sure what this little guys deal is. He's opening and closing his beak. But not chirping. ??? He externally pipped right after he internally pipped. So I don't actually think he's taking a really long time. Rather he's doing all the stuff he should have done before the external pip. Thanks for weighing in!
K, I have a ?: I went in my bator to put a sponge in and thought I'd candle while I was in there. I'm assuming the air cell should not move when I tilt the egg? Also when I shine the light from top to bottom it casts a shadow from about the middle of the egg down and up when I shine it from the bottom. I'm terrible at candling and have no idea what I'm looking for other than veins which I didn't see. It's only day 5 though. Should I be worried?
Little baby quail is here! He started trying to make progress on his own but the inner membrane was yellow and shriveled around the pip and his head, so I took him out and slowly started to help but then he just started trying his hardest to bust out of of the shell. He was literally breaking out faster then I could help. The inner membrane was stuck in a few spots and I peeled it off. I have no idea what newly hatched quail are supposed to look like. I don't even know if he's normal. Looks like an undeveloped chicken chick. But the yoke is absorbed fully and not a drop of blood or fluid. And he started peeping a little. We'll see if he makes it tomorrow morning. I'll be up early cleaning the incubator and setting the rest of my eggs!! Thanks for all the help/support!
Nope, should be green egg layers.
White is no gene for color. Any color or tint gene overrides.
Blue is a shell color. It's persistent but can be diluted or tinted.
Brown is a tint. It's painted on top of the shell color, so with a white egg and brown egg layer you get a brown egg layer, blue egg and brown egg layer you get a green egg layer.
You can play with shades within the colors and tints to come up with "gray", "pink", pale cream, and a whole basketful of shades.
So here's my updates:
1) I was supposed to tell everyone that if we tag Sally she will drop in to say hi. (I gave her the inside scoop about the thread so she's prepared)! But my morning was so busy she beat me to it!
2) I woke up and the little quail was still alive and peeping! But his feet were curled. Now I know that he's just a quail. $2 for a dozen eggs. But any experience I gain can be directly applied to chickens that I hatch! So all experience is valuable to me. So I made him little tape booties and he's doing great! It was a real challenge to make them since he's so tiny!!
