Where do or would you keep extra roos if not with the flock. I have thought about keeping a backup, but don't know where I would keep it. In a barrel like Don I guess?

I keep two roos in one pen, they are fine. Both are good roos, but different crosses. I don't have any trouble with two. One has learned his place and while he has a harem within the population, he does not cross his line. The big guy makes sure of that.

Good question. I am hoping I can have 2 as well.

I'm sure some of it depends on the temperament of the birds, but I've got my fingers crossed.

I imagine! Everyone at work knew I was a Earnhardt fan, when I went in to work the next day I had guys saying how sorry they were. It was cool (the gestures) and I was definitely saddened by it, but it was like "thanks, I didn't know him personally."  Honestly after  the crash I left t o go over to my BFF's and I got there and she told me the news-I didn't believe her at first. It did not look that bad.

I remember watching it and thinking "really, he died from that"? But that was about the end of my NASCAR too.
I was a huge Davey Allison fan. #28, died the day before my 28th birthday. I can't believe its been that long ago.

My plan is to keep a black in the Am pen and a blue for the BCM. I want to keep a black with the blue hens so I don't wind up with too many splash, but I will have the other blue for backup, maybe put a few Am hens in the olive egger pen later. If I had more pens, I would probably have 2 flocks of Ams, but I just can't see adding another pen right now.

SC, if possible you should have 2 of each color boys kept back... things happen and it can be a b***h if you end up without a good roo...

I grow the boys up together or get them integrated before hormones kick in and they do fine in a flock together... roo/hen ratio can be different when breeding than with a regular flock... as long as your outside pen area run-wise is good sized then most issues are nonexistent...

At one time I had 3 roos together with a dozen hens, no issues... right now my Silkies have extras with them, 4 Silkie roos, 2 Serama roos, 4 Silkie pullets, and 3 other mixed pullets... no issues whatsoever in their pen....

Yup...I was dumbfounded. Saw many a "worse" accident and watched the driver walk away.
