That float is awesome!! Hope you enjoyed the parade! SC pulled out all the stops this time. He's getting pretty fancy with the parades.

85% of locked down number for local non-shipped eggs... 75% for shipped eggs.

Pretty sad, fall is coming, they will migrate. Glad I only have sparrows come into my back yard. That's bad enough!

Fits and spurts

On a normal day, it's hopping from around 9 until lunch. It slows considerably until 3 or 4, then picks up again in the afternoons. My busy periods change from day to day, so sometimes I will just be in here stirring the pot.
The 75% for lockdown that I think you are referring to is the parade percentage. There's a certain guy on this thread, awesome guy, that will throw parades after hatches, but certain criteria have to be met. From lockdown, if you hatch 75% of shipped eggs you get a parade, but the number is 85% for your own eggs. And just to pacify that crybaby Ravyn, the percentage has been dropped to 50% for eggs that are shipped to a part of the world where another language is spoken

Run sounds a bit on the small side, but workable depending on how you do it... unless you can expand the run at all?? My coops are smaller, but with the large outside area they have they do well... mine don't hang out in the coops much anyways...

Also, I found that keeping 2 of the middle boys in the dominant order works better than the top male and a lower... I look for the 2 best that're also kinda 'buddies'...

As for color, if you aren't wanting splash really, then yes, make sure your main Am boys are black... I like a good blue, but getting consistent, even color and lacing is a pita as you can see from your grow outs...

Yes, I do have that chart, and that's how I decided I wanted black roos in the pen. I don't want a ton of splash, but I would like a few, so it would make sense to keep a blue in the pen if I could. Going by my customer base, I will rarely, if ever, sell birds to be shown or bred to show. The splash are pretty, and I'm sure they will be a great seller as layers, but I don't want many of them. I have the room to expand the run, but really don't want to. The more feasible solution in the future is to phase out another of my breeds and convert it to another Am pen. I have 7 pens, but really only 2 breeds that I am culling, and to be honest, my BCM should probably be scrapped and start over. If I had known what this would become when I got started, things would have been done differently, but now I'm shifting gears from a backyard full of pets to trying to produce some higher quality birds. There is some sentimental attachment to a lot of birds that are there, and until they start dying off, I don't see any movement into those pens

After what you said, I think I may try and see if I can keep 2 boys in that pen. I can scatter a few through other pens, but it would be nice if a couple could get along. The coop is 8x10, and the run is 12x16, so I don't know if that will be enough space for both of them, especially since there are only 7 girls right now. Am I right in thinking that I should keep blacks in the Am pen?

My roos and laying hens live in a 14 x 24 roofed pen with a 12 x 14 ground run. I don't foresee any issues with space. Put in a couple of extra roosts if you only have one roost pole now.
