She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Walnut,
You ever tried to candle brown eggs?
I'm trying to do it with a candler I fashioned from a 40w bulb under a small coffee can with a hole in one end.
All I'm able to determine is the size & location of air cells, and one clear, out of 6 eggs laid the day I set them 14 days ago.
Considering the purchase of a hand-held candler, but don't know if it would show more than what I've already got.
With the exception of the one clear, shouldn't some veins be visible?
I'm not sure, because of the light brown shells, whether my homemade candler is not showing me enough, or whether there's nothing there to be seen.
Whatcha think?

I don't like incandescent bulbs because of the heat:light ratio. Replace that bulb with a 100w equivalent CFL and you'll have a great candler.

I do candle medium brown eggs with no trouble, the trick is to ensure that no light leaks around the shell at the opening. Use a donut of foam weatherstripping tape to seal the gap.

Thanks...I do have light leakage around the base, wondered if that may be part of the problem.

Sweet cars. Don't see many Panteras today, even at the Woodward Dream Cruise.

My sister's first car was a '73 Firebird, mine was a '72 'Cuda. She wasn't into cars and didn't enjoy hers at all. I wore out a whole lot of fast cars. Now I have Firebirds...'69 convertible in my garage, '68 convertible in my dad's.

Wow, you have some nice old cars there. Any photos?

I also had a Lotus Europa. I thought it was ugly, maybe that's why I don't have any photos of it..lol..an ugly brown too. Will see if I can find a photo that is close to it. Little boxy car. Hard to shift!

This one looks ok...I like it in black, like I said, ours was brown. :/

This is how I do it..with a big ol bean can.

My problem is that DH won't let me collect anything for supplies. He doesn't like stuff sitting around.

I'd have to find a whole projects worth of stuff at once - so we end up paying more for new lumber!
Is there a little spot behind your house, or under the deck where you can set up a couple of pallets to put your stuff on? Maybe even build a little storage building?

What's their theory behind soaking in Listerine? Maybe they don't know how to sanitize an incubator?
Maybe they don't want their chicks to have bad breath? Sounds like a group of arrogant folks to steer clear of.

I've had 60 or so cars and a dozen or so motorcycles, I am sure I can dig up some pics.

The current 'birds are close at hand:

7/12 had awesome air cells!! Hoping for babies in 3 weeks!! (Down to 4 eggs still developing in the bator).

Ruby, those look fabulous! Packer don't play!
After rotary dials went away, they came out with a Trimline Princess phone with a dialpad. That is what I am using.

That color!

So I just got FB a couple weeks ago to talk to breeders. And I was messing around with it last night and found a hatching group. So I asked to join and boy, I don't think it's for me at all! There is a sticky about the way they hatch and you either hatch their way or leave! ie. All chicken eggs must be sprayed with 50/50 water/listerine daily, humidity must be measured by wet bulb, and "dry incubation" is the work of the devil, leading to all splayed legs, curled feet, DIS, and everything else. Humidity must be kept 60-70% the whole incubation, even 80...the higher the better because there is no way to drown chicks. And if you don't agree then you're not welcome. I didn't read the sticky (I didn't even know there was one) and made a couple helpful comments here and there and was instantly corrected and told I was 100% wrong. I completely missed the security of "he said/she said"! These guys made SC look like a saint!!

One reason I stay away from FB. It seems like a breeding ground for drama.

Great shot!! That should win some kind of something.
Will I win the longest quote reply?

What is everyone up to today? Hubs took kids to the company picnic at an amusement park. I have to clean the garage as best as I am able!
Not even close.

Fixing to get back on it. Tidying up the yard and finishing up a lean-to.
Then I get to burn things.

This was my coop when I lived in Arizona 10 yrs ago. It was on my fb memory page today.

It was the cheapest coop I ever built never lost a bird. I loved painting the fake windows and curtains Lol.

My youngest.

That is adorable! If I ever get time, I am stealing this idea.

YES!! Longest I have yet to see!
Stick around a while.
